A new element for my F&IW project that is a WIP and so hasn't got much progress to show at the moment.

This is needed for a planned Xmas holiday game that will incorporate my sloop, harbour, tavern, guardtower and some cabins into a supply depot with a farm further out.

As regards the farm, thus far (ie, since last night) I've got the beginnings of a cabbage patch with snake fancing, a chicken hutch (chickens by Hovel) and a small plank cabin.

The plank cabin will have shutters and a door. It has quite a nice fireplace inside that will be revealed in due course.  It can accomodate 6 minis on my penny coin bases.

The cabbages are the 'rose buds' used by greetings-card-makers, with the outer leaves snipped off.  Not a technique I've tried before so it will be interesting to see how they turn out.  The base needs more sand for earth with the gap between the cabbages and the fence being somewhere to stand the minis.

There will be more snake-fenced enclosures for which I have livestock options that include pigs, sheep, goats and cattle. I already have a fenced salad garden and some corn (though I'm in two minds to remake the corn).

More to follow idc.

Comments most welcome.  :)

Hey that's really cool! :) I love the chickens!!! Well, what you've done with them, I mean. The little house it great and the basing is nice, too. Closer pics will be coming though, surely!

Terrific stuff  :-*

I too love to add all the extra details like the chickens etc. They bring the layout to life :)

I have purchased animals from MegaMiniatures before, and have been really happy with those. I will definitely check out Hovels, though.

Hooray, more builds from SI  :D

You need more cabbages though  ;)

I do like the incidental stuff like this for a battle field, it certainly gives it a more 'finished' look  8)

Lovely as usual, SI. Those sparse bits are where the local groundhogs and rabbits have grazed. Trust me, no fence can stop them!

Great to see so much progress. Tell me, do you have a day job  ;)

Are you going to mitre the walls or join the bricks in some way so the join won't be visable?    The bedroom and stair layout is interesting, are you working from interior plans or on the hop (I understand the bit about the rules)?

cheers

James

Like the Dutch style house Steve.
I used to have an aunt who lived in the photogenic village of Topsham in Devon, and they have a row of these houses on the River Exe there - built by Dutch merchants Who traded and settled there in the C17th and C18th.

BTW the interconnecting 'open' rails on the loose sections were suggested to me by James, about 9 months or so ago.... so thanks JB!  :D

Really? Don't remember that one  lol

I think you're right about the corners, I've done plenty of mitres on architectural models to know it's a b***h to do and your suggestion would be easier.

I understand about the upper floor and it works for me  :)

Keep it coming  :D

cheers

I'm really looking forward to seeing your table when it's finished  :o

I think the smaller window on the cabin looks much better and I really like the chicken hutch.

Once again, I really appreciate the step-by-step photos you take andshare.

Cheers,

Barry
