Something learned on my trip to Concord/Lexington: Most of the nicer houses had the chimney in the center of the house. This allowed for one chimney to accommodate multiple fireplaces and more evenly heat the whole home.

That being said, your house looks great so far!

Marvelous! I had been thinking about doing a Dutch Street scape for a while - maybe  some canal row houses, but was racking my brain on how to do it. This is definitely an option....

I overlooked the update here too.

The layout looks great altogether - love the barn and log cabins especially.  :-*

Say, what are those cabbages made from? They're perfect!

Fabric rosebuds from a wedding supply place, apparently. (this from SI upthread, and originally from a TooFatLardie's blogpost).

Sorry for the threadomancy, but I just picked up two books from the local used book shop at lunch time that I thought anyone interested in this thread might like. Both are sketchbook-style studies called "Frontier Living" and "Colonial Living" by Edwin Tunis http://www.amazon.com/Edwin-Tunis/e/B001H9W5XI/ref=sr_ntt_srch_lnk_1?qid=1292609612&sr=1-1 . They have plenty of text, but what attracter me most was the plethora of nice clean line drawings perfect for building and terrain inspiration.

Amazon won't let me link images it seems, but you can look at sample pages on their site to see what I mean. It looks like these have been kicking about since the 1960s. I'm amazed I never saw these as a kid since they are just the sort of thing I used to borrow so often the librarians would start leaving them out for me!

I don't think you'll be disappointed. There is a great little section on "New Netherland" with some Dutch-style town houses, a farm house, and a windmill along with a few interior sketches with interesting details like built in "alcove" beds!

Glad to hear it SI. I have a few more of his titles reserved at the library. I'm hoping the one on water craft has some nice pictures of Ohio River flatboats!

Great stuff Steve  :-*  :-*

It looks very effective when it's all together  :)

Out of curiosity what did you glue the wall supports with?

cheers

Personally I would give the roads some tracks that go left/right right now all your tracks are at a 90 angle to each other as if nobody ever goes around the corner. Its not big but I find it jarring in some small way.
