Your original drawing showed a wider mouth.
Do you need to make the whole thing shorter but wider?

How about having the 'mouth' opening slide back over the body rather than hinge up?
So many projects..... so little time.......

Chris-thanks for the drawing. I think I'll stick with the whale just now and make one that looks more like an angler fish later, maybe use it as some sort of vehicle landing craft. I find myself getting frustrated as it is without scraping this try and starting again.

Jim-I took your advice and lowered the back bit a wee bit. I also added the tail section. I've still got to finish the tail, but I thought I'd let you all see it before I go any further.....

With the door, I'm going to keep with the size, but I'll make some hydraulics to lift it up over the bow using plastic pipe as pistons.

Looking good and I'm intrigued as to how you'll construct the pistons.  Will be watching with great interest.

Is it me or is the fact that it's made from black and white card make it easier to conceptualise?

I've went and done my back in falling down steps in the ice and snow and it's making it difficult to sit modelling, but I've managed to get some work done.

To make things simple, I've glued the hatch in the 'up' position. After all it is just a gaming piece and anytime it's in the game the sailors are going to be rushing out of it anywho.

The figs are wip and I'll post proper pics of them when I'm finished. Is it worth starting a new thread with the figs or is it possible to change the header and move it onto the VSF section? Maybe start a Nemo army thread?

Ouch!  :o Bad to hear about your back. I hope it's nothing serious? I slipped and fell four times yesterday and twice today, but luckily, my gamer-sized posterior amply cushioned the fall. lol

As for the landing craft, that looks marvellous. Very good idea with having the head part lift off, and an airlock in the bulkhead. I would so like to steal your idea and build a victorianised Atlantean Terrorfish, if I only had the time. Maybe over Christmas vacation.

Looks fantastic. Love the subtly hinted mechanical details in the floor, as well as the door!  :-*
