A Crew for AE-Bounty . Speedpainted, but I’m happy with the result  :D
The miniatues are old I-Core Marines and a Urban War Pit Beast.

Nice job on the I-Kore minis, and I agree with Manic_Miner, the colour really brings them together (really nicely done, too - great highlighting on the guy with the things, can't remember the name of the model).
I think I'm going to have to pick up a copy of AE Bounty. I have Star Mogul, and like the rules, but it seems that AE Bounty is a nice generic set of rules that will allow me to use almost any sci-fi minis I like, which is a great selling point, I think.
Any more crews on the horizon?

Great work for a speed paint!

I don't really like the models themselves much at all, but your paintjob makes them look pretty decent (I especially like the magenta-coloured sword) - well done Sir!  8)

Wow! That's some great purple!  :o

I always have trrouble with that coulour so its both pleasing and infuriating to see others do it well.

Excellent work for a speed paint too.

Seeing al the different models people are bringing to AE I really want to get in on this. Am I correct in thinking its a tiny bit like sci-fi mordheim, with more open gang design rules?

Yeah its appealling to me too I must admit, though I'm more skirmish/squad based in my gaming it does sound like a good system

It depends how you like your skirmish games... I like skirmish games with 5-15 models in them. Fewer than that, and tactics are too restricted, more than that and it starts to feel too big to properly focus on each model properly. If I want big battles I'll play Epic40k or one of the Commander series of games.

And despite the crews I've seen posted around looking like they are all made up of independent characters, AE Bounty does support squads as well as individual figures...

As for how it is, it depends a little on the sort of crew you pick:

  • Bounty Hunters are pretty much individuals who are fairly experienced and quite tooled-up with all sorts of kit.
  • Mercs tend towards independent specialists and reasonably trained and equipped squads.
  • Pirates tend to be small squads or variable quality with limited equipment and are supported by officers, specialists, etc.

That is very roughly speaking though, as the way the selection system works, you could choose to have a compact and elite Pirate crew or a large and poor quality Merc force if you wanted. Any model can be any race as well, which can give a variety of modifiers, and there are also a number of 'Dirty Tricks', some of which grant changes to your crew's equipment and such.

It is a very flexible system, but I think that some pages should have been devoted to a proper example of how to use the crew building system. I couldn't work it out at first, and it took me a while between reading the forum-based FAQs and the rulebook before it clicked. The dawning moment for me was when I realised that a "Unit" was basically a force 'pick', and could be either a single model or a number of models, depending on what the entry I chose them from dictated.

Finally, it has a basic system of campaign advancement. Troops have (or not) various skills and experience levels when you recruit them, and the campaign systems allows you to advance their skills and veterancy. There are also simple rules to work out what happens to partial squads after each game, mostly based on the proportion of casualties they took.

It is a very flexible ruleset, and there is wide scope for including pretty much anything you want.

Yes I think those are the two weakest points of the rules.
