Oldest GW plastic ork
« on: September 14, 2010, 06:07:41 AM »
I painted this in about 2002.  People were surprised I got it to look this good.  I didn't do anything special I painted it for fun and for my Mordheim gang which I think I used once.  This came in the Fantasy Fighters box with Wood Elves, Dark Elves, Skave, Dwarves, and Goblins, five of each.  I still  have some of the other old plastics, but I traded away the Dwarves for sure.  I've painted all the goblins.  I started Warhammer at the dawn of 4th Edition so I've painted tonnes of those single posed plastic goblins.

I uploaded this older figure to Flickr recently and when looking at it just now, I thought of you guys.

Wow I've never seen this guy look so good. I've still got a plastic gobo or two from this set laying around.

Aaaaactually the oldest plastic orcs where the 'drastik plastic' orcs produced a year or two before that one.  You got a sprue of 2 in a blister.

Thats the second oldest :)  Happy birthday!

Beat me to it Dave though I think possibly only the first in 28mm, citadel also did a range of fighting fantasy miniatures in 54mm including Orcs, not certain which came out first.  I have a couple of units of these warhammmer regiments orcs and one unit of the first drastic plastic orcs,  they aren't great but it completes the collection. When they are out of storage I'll get some photos up. When this warhammer regiments box set first came out you got ten of each, it was reduced to five some time later.

As an aside, there was also the psycho-styrene dwarf which if you can get them the parts mix perfectly with the warhammer regiments dwarf. These were a better kit but still a bit shallow on detail.

I like the paint job, its a bit nurgely so would fit with your daemons as a renagade orc, perhaps in a unit of thugs/marauders or an old realms warband.

I like these guys, I actually really like the goblins that came in the set and would love a regiment.

Well done on the paintjob.  :)

Whats to stop you? They are reasonably common and usually cheap on ebay.

Yup, I have dozens of both the Orcs and the Goblins - they're among my favourite sculpts of either, but I'm old so I think everything was better in the 80s... I keep promising Eastern Barbarian (who sold me some of these orcs recently) that I'd get some pictures online, but I'm rubbish (at both painting and organisation)...

Someday I will, honestly. Not as nicely painted as this one though! Nice job, Muskie!

EDIT: because I insist on making spelling mistakes that alter the grammar of my posts...

Maybe this is the oldest GW plastic ork in the colonies.  It is the oldest one I've ever seen.  I got it in Grade 11.  I have four more of the Orks unpainted, but I painted all the goblins, they are in my two archer units.  I've posted pics of them before.  There is one on Flickr for sure.

They're in there, they either have a helmet or no helmet, all the the other Archers but the command have hoods.

I made sure there was one in the front row of this unit to:

Here is another old GW plastic ork I painted in the same batch for the Mordheim gang.  It is now on Flickr to, so circa 2002 paint job.

Good my anti-hotlinking solution seems to be working, because I'm fairly clever and I plan ahead.  I'm sure some people will be surprised to get a different image real soon now, but I didn't go with anything too graphic just in case.

I hope to resume painting soon, but right now I'm just checking my own posts to forums such as this are still fine.
