Japanese 1894 to 1905 uniforms

Did the japanese uniform change much between 1894 to 1905 ?
had a look at this site

The uniform changed from blue jackets/ trousers to khaki in about 1904 but is wasn't a straight swop. Quite often both types of uniform would have been seen on the same battlefield especially with the cavalry which used a French model to start but because of the work that a lot of the cavalry did behind enemy lines these particular troops changed to khaki almost exclusively.

I'm no expert on this subject, but I have a book entitled Japanese Military Uniforms 1841-1929 by Ritta Nakanishi which is filled with color plates; notes are in both Japanese and English.  According to that book the standard equipment used in the Russo-Japanese War was set in 1886.  It shows uniforms in dark blue, khaki, and white and combinations of all three.  Basically it supports what James said and indicated that a mix of uniforms and parts of uniforms prior to the 1886 standard were all in use.

For my Russo Japanese troops I have a mix in blue, khaki and blue and khaki.

The Japanese changed over reasonably quickly to a khaki color so by the time of the Liaoyang operations alot of the blue and white uniforms (those types used in the Sino Japanese War) were mostly gone.

There were such large numbers of troops engaged i the RJW that a mix of blue on the table anytime is fair enough. I like to portray my troops in blue up to the battle of Nanshan were khaki starts to make an appearance. By the time of the march on Mukden I tend toward more khaki.

Bottom line is, you can pretty much get away with anything!
