Zvezda castles
« on: December 08, 2010, 10:05:38 AM »
I have previously made good use of Zvezda's 1/72 forts and castles as base materials for various table top architectural projects. The hard plastic is quite workable. Now that I try to find a sets I start to wonder if they make them out of ruthenium. £84 for this set! With todays exchange rates that would probably be the down payment for a real Russian castle.

Does anyone know a cheaper source for this or other Zvezda sets? *pokes cuprum*

In Russian stores this castle costs roughly about  90$
Wich is certainly cheaper, then 84 pounds.
But I`m not sure about how much it will cost to send such big and heavy box outside the Russia.

A local model shop has some Zvezda castle stuff; I can check out prices if you like.

OK, so probably not worth it. Swedish customs adds a hefty customs fees to all things from Russia to. Spasiba all the same Nimrod.

LOL - About five years ago I was in Stockholm at the model shop near the Gallerium (across from the Games Workshop store) and picked up a number of extra Zvezda watchtowers and wall expansions, as I had not seem them anywhere in the US and they were on clearance sale.  Two months later, I get my Squadron Models catalog in the mail and they have the same sets on clearance for about half of what I got them for in Sweden.  Argh!

In any event, Squadron models (www.squadron.com) gets Zvezda sets on sale from time to time, but I don't know what shipping to Sweden would be like.

The big pity is the 20mm scale. Too big for 15mm and noticeably too small for 25/8mm.

This is true. But they work all right as conversion materials, with new windows and such (as I hope to be able to show in the near future).
