Bunkers - My First Attempt at Terrain Sculpting
« on: December 16, 2010, 08:50:49 AM »
Yesterday I've made my first attempt at terrain sculpting, building two 15mm-scale bunkers from a locally-available air-hardening clay called Ceramix. The first one came off better than the second, IMHO, but I'll be learning from my mistakes: practice makes perfect! ;)

Here they are, with two 15mm Rebel Minis Earthforce Marines for scale:

Good start but looks a little rounded. I always found that with DAS clay (probably the same stuff, just another brand name). I did used to use a wet knife to work it as it dried, helped to keeps edges straighter etc and let them dry on something hard and flat so stop them warping which this stuff has a tendency to do  :-[

Keep going!

Better off using foamcard then watered down polyfilla/wall filler brushed over it to give it a stone effect.

They look a little saggy to be honest. Hex is better than the round one though.

Now water can flow....or water can crash...be water my friend.

Yeah, I'm not very satisfied (to say the least) with the rounded one, to say the truth...

And thanks for the tip - I'll use a wet knife on those edges to get a better finish.
