Fortune was with the Americans, as most of the guards failed their 'alertness' rolls and were asleep.
The Atlantean temple guards and scouts silenced the nearest sleeping guards ...
and Sergeant Bronson led his marines to silence the hilltop guard position.
Unfortunately the rest of the hilltop guards' unit, together with the MG armed steamcar, were the other side of the hill, so the marines were occupied for much of the rest of the game in either avoiding MG fire or disposing of badmash guards with rifle fire.
A badamash in the camp noticed the Atlantean scouts siilencing the guards, raising the alarm and awaking the European mercenaries. In response, Ensign Ravenwood's Atlantean scouts continued their attack through the tent line to engage the Europeans (thus preventing the Europeans from activating their MG-armed automaton).
Meanwhile, the temple guards' leader demonstrated the power of his crystal energy staff on an automaton.
The remaining two automata charged the temple guards. Under normal circumstances the automata's combined four attacks would have devastated the temple guards, but their armour annd shields allowed them good enough saves to deflect two out of the three hits caused on the unit, ...
... halting the dervish attack and allowing the Atlantean Temple Guardian automaton to destroy a second dervish automaton.
While this was happening, the scouts' attack was halted. Although they had suffered casulaties, the mercenaries returned the favour and incapacitated Ensign Ravenwood. In their subsequent morale test the scouts broke. On their flank, the US marines' Ironman impervious suit engaged the immobilised steamcar.
Now the temple guard phalanx showed what it was were made of and destroyed the final dervish automaton.
Seeing the scouts break, the Chief McQueen led his landing party onwards to avenge their fallen allies. Despite the steamcar having brought its machinegun to bear on it, the Ironman continued to attack the car.
Finally the steamcar failed a save against the Ironman's attacks. The rolled result was 'commander thrown fromm vehicle and is hit'. The commander failed his save so we decide the Ironman had forced open the door and dragged the screaming commander out, before tossing away his limp body.
The game was now effectively over. The temple guards pushed on into the remaining intact badamash unit and the marines on the hill poured fire onto any mercenaries or badamashes within range.
The Koshindan commander escaped with his life.
The Americans had broken their enemy. However, they captured no archaeologists as the first of their troops to make contact were the Atlantean scouts, who had scores to settle with the Koshindans ....
