Burma and SW Pacific from Brigade Games/Company B
« on: September 12, 2007, 11:47:06 PM »
Hi Folks,

Lon Weiss from Brigade Games has announced on his Yahoo Group the following below for the above theatres. I believe this is in cooperation with Company B.

Paul Hicks will be doing the Brits for Burma and Mike Broadbent the Aussies for SW Pacific - Probably no suprises there. :)

All in 28 mm and will be a welcome addition to the range currently available from Brigade.

Not to mention the variety of supporting arms and AFVs that you can now buy from Brigade Games and Company B.

From my point of view the gamer/collector has been blessed by a number of companies now who are providing quality figures for this conflict.

Bruce Meyer has indicated on the Brigade Games Forum the following; "One additional note on the upcoming expansions. These troops will be sculpted as they fought in the field. No parade ground fresh kit in these lines."

Here is a photo of the Aussie Coast Watchers and Natives for the range. I'd dinner with Mike and Ailsa last night and was privelage to view the figures which are very pleasing to the eye and will look nice painted:

Best wishes,
Helen

Those chaps look neat. Welcome relief to an under gamed period.  And I'm well chuffed Mr. Hicks is doing the Burma stuff- hope we get lots of Indians, Africans and Burmese.

Hi Folks, Lon at Brigade Games has announced the arrival of the Australian Diggers for the Pac War Range. These figures are designed by talented Mike Broadbent.

These figures will be available at Fall-In if you are going and from the Brigade Games web store. Please see link below.

Also available are Backpacks, rolls, pouches, etc (for 11 man section) which is great for giving additional variety to your group.

Just a little history behind these lovely chaps. The Australian Military Forces underwent significant changes to meet the peculiar conditions in the SW Pacific after the Kokoda experiences in 1942. In particular, there was some changes affecting the organic structure of the Infantry battalion and its role. In mid 1943 a new organisation was introduced namely the Jungle Division and this new structure pathed the way for beating the Japanese in his own environment.  The infantry platoon was given a new organisation and new equipment and this was  the start of a new phase in winning the battle for the allies.

Trials of new clothing, equipment and weapons were conducted on a regular basis in theatre and if a need existed in replacing inappropriate items that were not up to operational conditions or new technology was forthcoming by industry this was implemented. Australia in general was equipping the digger with their own manufactured items. Gone were the American gaiters and a new jungle boot introduced. New clothing that provided better comfort and also combat webbing more styled for this type of warfare was seen to. Owen SMGs were replacing Thompsons SMGs when sufficent quanties were available. However, there were some items that remained with the digger that came from overseas like the British Machete (even though some still will be carrying the American style machete).

All researched was conducted at the Australian War Memorial using War Archive files and Diaries. So what you are seeing in these diggers is factually correct and so Mike Broadbent has produced a very good range of figures for Company B and Brigade Games.

This range of Diggers is a welcome additions to the Pacific War Range and I hope you like them.

If I were going to do a four-man Oz Squad they'd be:

Lieutenant Morant: Gave up a university scholarship to serve. Not entirely trusted by his squad due to his middle-class upbringing, nor by his British superiors because of his Australian heritage. Downplays any family connection to his imfamous relative.

Sergeant Doolittle: Iterant oddboddsman who did a little bit of everything before deciding to volunteer with the Army. He serves as the squad's "acquisition specialist." Has learned to look utterly blank whenever Lt. Morant asks where the latest bit of kit has come from.

Bluey: There's always a Bluey. Bluey has a girl back home, who he's going to marry when this war is over. Other than that, Bluey is perfectly happy to follow orders, trusting implicitly in his Lieutenant.

Bushie: Ain't the army great! There's all this great kit lying around for a bloke to take. They give you three meals a day and all the bully beef you can walk out with! Bushie's goal in the army is to studiously avoid work, getting hurt, and to swipe as much stuff as he can, and will build a still if left in the same location for 48 hours.
