Has anyone played this game?

If so, could you share your thoughts?

I bought it last year - it is a good game.

You can play it solo, or against someone.

Each player has starting funds to set up and equip their team of explorers.

Each turn is random with results as to what you find and what events occur.

It also allows for campaign play, and the inclusion of dinosaurs if you so desire (I didn't).

I wouldn't give them 10 out of 10, but they are simple and a lot of fun... so maybe a 7 or 8 out of 10.

Purchased it last year and previously had the free beta version before it was published. I like the game, it's similar to Source of the Nile with the exploration element and returning to civilization to reap the rewards of your exploration and outfit a new exploration. As mentioned it allows for fantastic elements like dinosaurs.  Campaign map is a grid of squares, size determined by you. Each turn you can explore a new square and possibly have an encounter (all determined via the game charts). Terrain rules allow things like rivers circling back on themselves, you can home rule these instances out if you desire. Encounters are played out on tactical map of at least 30 in x 30 in. You can easily insert your favorite skirmish rules for the tactical encounters. At a minimum, it serves as a campaign mechanism to generate and tie together pulp exploration skirmishes.

On the site it says - "All you need to supply are some dice, paper and pencils, a tabletop, and an imagination."

Does this mean they provide some sort of counters to play out the encounters? (Did I just make a rhyme?  o_o) I have plenty of dinos and other wild creatures, but sadly lack jungle type natives.

Glad to point it out for you, Malebolgia.  :)

From their website:

You may use miniature figures when playing Encounters, or the included counters.

They include low tech counters for the game... squares with letters printed on them, so not stand up paper figures.

--- Then your chances of getting the game are doomed, Hippie. (sorry, watched a two day marathon of the Three Stooges... left me in a punny mood)

I might have to try this game out.

Thanks, that's sweet. But there are a few blokes around here (like 3 Miles away), who could do that. It's a lot easier that way.

I have to say the idea of campaign play does encourage me to buy this game, how exactly is this set up? Does one player play the explorers and the other the wild encounters trying to eat them or what?

You take it in turns. Say you have two players, each with their own expedition of explorers: If in the strategic turn one player has an encounter that results in a fight, then the other player controls the natives during that fight. And when it is his go, the reverse happens. Or you could have one player and a GM. I think animals have programmed actions and responses, so you don't need a player for them.

Free version, which has the bare bones but no terrain square generator, or encounter, event cards, etc.:
