making a modular sci-fi Gameboard
« on: January 04, 2011, 11:03:45 AM »
i want to start a coupple of new Games this Year.Allready have my AE-Bounty Book, the Fubar Rules,Judge Dredd Ruleset and so on.Now i need a new Gameboard.Hopefully the Board will be generic enough to use it for various different Settings such as Postapoc/2000 AD or near Future/Mo-fo...
i have 8 of these 20x20 Inches ( 50x50cm) Foamboards.First Board will be a Industrie/Facility Style Board with only a few Buildings. Here are some wip Pics of the First Steps...
Plastic Parts ( Doors,Panels) are from the Urban War Terrain Kits.Picked up very cheap on Fleabay.

Next STep
Painted the whole Board with Concrete/Mortar,and added some Structures with a sharp Knife. Not that spectaculary.More Progress will follow soon

Very nice, just be careful with expanded polystyrene, it's not that resilient and your hard work may become damaged very quickly. Might be worth mounting them to precut MDF? (Local DIY stores should be able to cut to size).

I agree with commander viper, I have done something similar with quite hard foam and suffered the consequences of not basing it on wood as well. Do take care to prevent warping tough.

Todays progress:Warning Signs,Tags,Posters.Next Step will be painting all the smaller Scenery to make the Board look more "Alive"
As for the Stability of the Board:I have a large Wooden Table as Underground ( one of those boring flat Static Green Grass Tables)  :?

Yes, the details make it. I would be reticent to use polystyrene to make gaming scenery from, but this looks great!

I really like the street litter. It's quite hard to give a landscape some "untidy" look. Well done!
