Yes, James, I'll do some shots from above when the main part of the fort is finished.

Jolly good  :D

This, truly is one of the spectacular build threads of this site, wonderful work. It should inspire me to get on to a long delayed project to build a Portuguese fort but on balance I think it makes it less likely as I marvel at skills I'm unlikely to ever come close to.  :(

Lovely work and yes, I'd love to see an 'aerial' shot.

Yes, this project is not dead. Indeed I've done more already than what follows ... It must come to an end now.  8)

The area of my (ficticious) fort has been dominated by an ancient fortified tower centuries ago in the middle ages of which only ruins remained. Later this tower was newly erected inside the old ruined one leaving the lower stonework as foundation. When construction of the Vauban Fortress started, it was decided that it would encompass this old tower area for strategic reasons. At least that's my version of the story ...  :)

So the next pics show this old tower, built within the remains of the even older one. To prevent enemies to easily break into the tower gate, the entrance is on an upper floor accessible only over two ramps and a drawbridge (I like drawbridges, and this way I could even install one into this "modern" fortress). No, it's not movable ...  :)

More pics soon ... hopefully.
 :)

How big is the table that the fort is going to be used on?

Well, depends what games we wanna play with it ...! But the fortress looks bigger than it is: both parts together measure around 95 x 80 cm.

What exactly do you mean? The rocks at the bottom of the walls? That's just cork bark.

Beautiful work!

Thanks for sharing your project with us.

Did you have to seal the styrofoam, before making a mold with the silicone?

If so, what did you use to seal it?

Who makes the cannons shown of the first page of this project?

Thanks, Mako! No sealing at all to the styrofoam, even no mould release stuff. But I used a high-quality silicone for that mould, not the cheap hobby silicone.
The cannons are by Foundry from their pirates range. They are nice, but way too expensive, so I only have these two. You'll get cheap and good ones from shipmodeller's suppliers.

I love watching your progress on this. I might add a Vauban section to my Robin Hood Castle so I can use it for a later conflict.

lol sorry, my bad, i meant the stone walls! they look pre-printed, but they're also quite thick, that's unusual! =)

Thank you for the info on casting the pieces with the silicone.

I really appreciate it.
