Experimenting trays for DBX and such (pic heavy)
« on: January 09, 2011, 01:41:53 AM »
Dear Gentlemen,
I'm trying to make some mini-tray where I can fit the minis I use also for skirmish games, they're slotta (<20mm) based. I'd like to be able to fit three minis on a 60x30mm, which would be more or less ok for DBX, FoG and so on. Or it could be a fourth of an Impetus base.

I started from a Fenris wooden base, 60x30mm

then put some greenstuff on it and modeled the "holes" for my bases to fit in

then I've created a mould and cast it in some kind of plaster

Then the plaster base was glued on the wooden base to give it some stability.

And that's it (three atlantean hoplites perfectly fit):

The bases don't quite get over the rim (ok, I can't say it better, the pic talks)

What do you think? Any hint/suggestion?

a clever but simple idea that I can see myself borrowing

I like skirmish, but with these you can cheaply build up into units for DBA. HoTT or even FoW

thanks
No dear, they are not toys, they are models

Just saw this today! I'm going to have to steal this idea, cause it is awesome! :) Also, where did you get the plastic Greeks from?

Hi,
thank you for the positive comment. The squid hoplites are: Wargames Factory Numidian bodies, left arm, shield, Immortal Hoplites spear, Croocked dice head. When you do some tray like this, please show and tell so I can get new ideas.
