Mechanical Squid

Soo.... I've got a couple of subs in the collection so far.

In the first thread it somehow got round to trying to build a mechanical squid to fight the other sub. This is the sketch I'm working from. Looking at it I think it would work out too big so I've scaled the real thing back a wee bit.

That's all I've got done so far. The main body is made out of glossy magazine cover again, like the other builds, wrapped over a simple box shape made out of mounting card. The propeller at the back is very thin plastic card cut in a circle and folded round on it's self with a disc of thicker plastic card to hold the shape. The blade on it is a thin plastic card circle cut concentrically into the middle to make a coil that's glued to the cone.

youre a visionary! you have an idea, conceptualize it on paper ant then build it. thats impressive. most of us get stuck on any one of those steps.

F-ing brilliant! Keep us posted.

I'm really interested to see how you tackle the tentacles. I would suggest the lower range strings from an old piano if you can find them.

Jamesmanto-cheers dude! I've used steal wire as a kind of former and drilled out a square piece of plastic card with 6 holes and pushed the wire through. I then made cones out of glossy paper and glued them on. It doesn't look too different yet to the last pictures so I've not posted them yet.

Doomsdave-what is that from?

Colin- no rules yet. I'll see what westfellachris comes up with first for 'the battle of the aquanauts'

Cheers guys!!

An 80's Cartoon Series called Silverhawks, which was really Thundercats in space, but then again Thundercats was just He-man with Furries. I loved it when I was younger and always wanted a minis version of Mon-Starr's space squid.
