It might depend on the tone rather than the actual colour. I always wondered why tigers are yellow and black when colour doesn't matter  ???

I believe it was a type of soldier fish. Big eyes, and not very pretty :)
I assume it's a deep dweller due to the eyes etc but if red is the last to go, how would that act as camoflague, surely the colour would be irrelevant?

The Soldier fish is  nocturnal hence the big eyes , it hides in crevices and caves during the day. And yes the colour does seem to be irrelevant, nature huh? I guess at night it doesn't matter.

Then the sealife centre needs to change the text next to the fish that says they're camoflagued due to being red. Not the first place to get things wrong on those though.
So many projects..... so little time.......

They are probably right, I guess the fish  hide amongst red coloured rocks, coral and so on during the day? The Soldier fish is not a deep dweller; they go to about 35 metres.

So we could imagine Andy's squid parked in a volcanic (red coloured) crevice awaiting it's prey? Then again the colour could just be saying "I'm red, and  I'm not to be messed with!"?

Sorry to mess up any theory, but where does green sit in all this?

Okay, decided to actually look into this myself :)

Apparantly red is the first colour to go and has reduced dramatically by 10'. Which means that when the soldier fish go into the deeper areas of a coral reef to hunt they appear black/grey. So at night, amongst the coral, they probably do count as camouflaged.

Andym, looks like green filters out around 45' :)

Very nice paint job, the lighter streaks make me think of light flickering over it's surface

That Squid is just as I imagined it (colorwise).  Very nice concept and execution.  You never disappoint.  (Nor do you Andy!)
This is my boomstick!
