Perry French Heavy Cavalry, how much of a stretch?
« on: January 10, 2011, 08:11:56 PM »
Am I correct in believing that I can use the Perry plastics for Cuirassiers of the 1870s and later? Would I be wrong in thinking that the only major difference would be the guns used? Are there any other details that I would need to modify?

The trousers were red with a blue stripe and pretty baggy in 1870 rather than tight and buttoning up the side like the Perry ones. The equipment on the horse looked more modern and less fancy, with rucksack-style bags on each side behind the saddle; and they didn't have sheepskin covers on the saddles as far as I can tell. Also, the coloured blanket with what I presume is a regimental number on it was not present. Other than that, pretty similar.

How much later do you mean by 'later?' They'd need a fair bit more work if you wanted them to do for 1914.

As you can see if you compare these pics with ones of the Perry figures, it is mostly the stuff on the horse, rather than on the rider himself that is noticeably different.

That's perfect! Thanks for the info. I'm going to be using the horses anyway. I'm planning on making aerocavalry like the guy in the middle of this picture.

Edit: What I meant to say is that I'm not going to use the horses!

That would be ace!

I love how it is all Art Nouveau styled!

I might have to get to work on a French force for VSF.  :)

I like how the women have hem lines above their knees but have poofy pantaloons below.

I was going to PM you and offer you my unused horses! :)  The Perry heavy Cavalry are fantastic! I used them for my VSF Dutch and I heartily recommend them.
