Morkin: The Freebooter art is indeed cited in Spectrum 17, The Best in Contemporary Fantastic Art, on page 213.  While it didn't win an award, I'm impressed it's in there at all.  Congratulations.  By the way, Werner Klocke is cited as the "art director".
Wow, I'm impressed. Didn't know that. Thanks for digging out the reference.

As for Gianna: that photo does a good job of flattering her nose. I still don't think the cover art is reminiscent of her specifically. Maybe it's the attire. Let's not go into it on this forum, shall we?  ;)

No matter who was the inspiration, it's a very nice cover. I will have to get a closer look at the rules themselves when it comes out.

It's astonishing to me to see miniatures companies employing professional artists to sell their stuff.  Given what I assume is the cost, I don't see Hinterland doing that any time soon.  Some art for Freebooter was recently featured in the Spectrum books, which show the best refereed fantasy and sci-fi art of the year.  Wow.  :o

By the way (and revealing how I spend time that should be dedicated to painting ;D), anyone else think the chick in the Black Scorpian artwork bears an interesting resemblance to porn starlet Giana Michaels?

Why is it astonishing? It's basic Marketing 101 that a nice cover, interior art, layout, and good overall production values will sell more product. If one can't afford it, that's understandable, but that doesn't mean it doesn't make sense for those who can to make the investment.

It's astounding due to this:

I for one are really, really looking forward to this, especially since Legends of the High Seas was not really what we wanted for our Pirate Adventure Campaign. I think that Cutlass! will suit our taste more. Even though I am sure Legends of the High Seas can easily be designed to cater to ones taste, it would require a lot of work with the campaign rules... wich was the point of buyin the system in the first place hehe.
Back to Mordheim in the mean time it seems.

I think that both of the young ladies are quite hawt, but the lady used as model for the cover is one step ahead on the hawtometer.

Can I make an observation or two?   :o  Hopefully no one will be offended.   ???

Contrary to the stereotype of war gamers, we just had an exchange about Fantasy pirate rules, a very beautiful young aspiring model/actress, a porn starlet, and cover art.  As an evangelical Christian (now there  lol is a stereotype) I have been criticized over my comments on other forums over some aspects of certain miniatures that I prefer not to own - you can own whatever you want IMHO and I will gladly explain that right to others who may be overly upset over that.

We never were juvenile, we never were lascivious, we never avoided the implicit sexuality (sexuality is not a bad thing IMO BTW,) and we were about as objective about the discussion items as possible.  In another words, we were adults.  Not that surprises me on this forum actually, maybe because of the quality of our members.   ;)

1) Why do war gamers have the outsider's stereotype of being juveniles on steroids about this kind of art/miniatures?  Because we fail (I am thinking of several other forums) to have adult level conversations publicly as often as we immediately sink into  non-adult exchanges about the art/miniatures?

2) Why do we (on other forums) sink into "the abyss" on this subject?

3) Why was I mildly surprised by this?

Gracias,

Glenn

Oh, for the record, I have two sets of nude/semi-nude miniatures (both involving two females) that I have as integral story tags to a FRPG scenario that I had hoped to use (one as a red herring and one factual "clue" to solving the mystery) in a detective style D&D campaign I used to run.  Unfortunately we never got to that scenario before the campaign came to an end due to real world priorities of my players!  All that outside the box planning never used!  And, no, I don't have them out on my shelf, I have this wild hope I may someday get to DM again after I retire and I want them to have that surprise factor when I set them on the table!

This is a forum for gaming with miniatures, and sometimes it contains art and or miniatures that happend to be females, and yes, these sometime have the look of very busty young ladies. I dont mind this. I like busty young females. Come to think about it, I like older busty ladies as well. Hmm I like all busty ladies, and some that are not that busty, but still.
I dont get offended by nudity, on the contrary, I have during my, longer than expected, life tried to encourage nudity with the opposite sex as often as I have been able, and sometimes the same sex, depending a little bit on the situation and purpose.
I am not religious in any way form or shape, and I live after the general rule of letting other people minding their own business (unless, of course, its about young busty ladies). I do however feel that if people want to occupy their life with religious matters, its basically up to them, unless of course, it interfears with my life. Then I do react.
I can be called a lot of things, stereotype is one of them, but I got to admit, I like pirates and I like the combination with young busty ladies. It is perhaps a sterotype, but as I have allready said, I admit to belonging to that group.
One thing that surprised me though, is the fact that you have more models of nude girls than I do. I must rectify this somehow :S

 lol

I am sure you will do your best.   ;)

That said I bought a rather large "grab bag" of Ral Partha miniatures from the old days and IIRC the seller mentioned some slave girls/harem girls/some such but I never bothered to do more than put them un-inspected in a box since I had no need for them at that time and only had plans for some of the fantasy warriors in the group.  Perhaps I should dig them out and offer them to you at a great discount!  If these might need your purposes please PM me and I will dig them out and take pictures so you can decide if you want them.  I'll never use them...   :D

Gracias,

Glenn
