Royal Navy vs Chinese Rebels
« on: January 27, 2011, 02:04:00 PM »
Hi All newby here.

I have been persuaded to post some pictures of a game played at my club last friday on your forum.

The rules were mainly/losely based around LOTOW

The scenario was that the British were returning from an expedition inland and were trying to board their transport, but the natives were not going to let them.

McG and Paul York both had squads of 8 men each and the Chinese numbers were randomly generated, quite heavily at the beginning of the game then to a trickle towards the end.

Although the British gained a couple of Victoria Crosses (Officers) and several other medals of gallentry they did not fulfil their objective. They did however kill 29 of the natives but lost 11 of their own. The British shooting as you would expect was outstanding causing several panic tests amongst the natives and keeping them at a distance.Once the Chinese closed into hand to hand combat the tide turned  in their favour because of superior numbers and musket butts

That is beautiful! Are those planks on the game board actually made from wood, or a cast tile (the overall effect is rather regular, but the individual squares seem to be quite different, so I can't decide from the pics...)?

The water is very nice and effective, too.

Glad you've honoured us, Paul! It's a beautiful set up. Congratulations and welcome. I hope you have a look around at the other incredible colonial games which are posted here.

I am very pleased you have posted the photos here because its a gorgeous board. I love all the small details and the trees look suitably oriental too. Wonderful stuff ;D

Hi Chris

The wooden planks are made from the stirers you get at costa coffee and other coffee shops. The squares are roughly 40mm square. It took a long time to do and a heck of a lot of tapers but it all worked out in the end. The base was given a stain and any broken slats were given a green pastel wipe.

I'd buy the stirrers, but if he's like most gamers, he nicks twenty for every cup he drinks. ;->=

Sorry, my mate directed me to this thread, but I spend most of my time on VSF forum. I kept quashing  the thought 'where's the dinosaurs? where's Fu Manchu...'  lol

Obviously, there was plenty going on without them. Can't put it better than Randy "Looks like this was a pretty fun game."

It's a compact but lovely setup; where is your club located?

Lovely board, very nice figures, and as noted, deceptively compact set-up.
Great to look at, and looks fun too. Thanks for posting.

That's a great idea for a table.
Some very, very nice figures.
Are the houses bought or built?

Excellent looking game Paul. You will find no shortage of enthusiasts here for games, figures and tables that look as good as that  :)
