Air Balloon Invasion of England
« on: February 15, 2011, 03:00:25 PM »
Whilst at the Hammerhead show this weekend I took some video of the various games including and interesting looking suspended Balloon/basket game and a Martian invasion which looked great.

There is a link to the video here: http://www.gruntz.biz/2011/02/hammerhead-wargames-show.html

I've calmed down now. I see it was run by The Bunker, thought I recognised the tripods from their website.

It was near Newark, which is near Nottingham in the North. I travelled up from near to Gatwick which is about a 3.4 hour drive.

Damn commercials... ;->=

Congratulations on a lovely table, and it seems, an enthusiastic crowd around it. The players definitely seemed to be getting into your game.

Guilty confession: I was looking over your shoulder at the swath of space behind you, wondering "which game?"

Whoa! I only had time to just become stunned by the balloon fleet, and you were on to another table. If anyone has piccies of these, PLEASE post them to the Aeronef sticky!

Not that was the only stunning moment: What's not to love of a Stuka diving on those dockworks?

Why did I know there would be tripods?  :D

Not sure which game it was, but I have to give kudos to one of the best jobs of camouflaging styro squares. You could see the joins, but the well thought out gullies and roads took your eyes away from same.

Thanks so much!

Doug

Edit: Just looked again, and realized part of my 'just stunned' for the French Air Fleet was because of choppy streaming. If you can make a few screen caps, that'd be almost as good!

Yes Thunder Chicken - I am guilty of the Tripods! I do run the game @ The Bunker Wargame Holiday Centre and
it is quit a popular choice.
The Bunker is based in Newark, so Hammerhead/Partizan is the local show. I will be taking the game to Partizan in May.
The game was voted The Best Presented Game at Hammerhead

@TheBunker: Are your tripods home made or based on a resin kit. It was a stunning game visually!

You know what I hate on this forum? The constant braggin'...  lol

Seriously, well done, well deserved! Especially as you obviously had REAL competition there.

Do you know of anywhere besides Shadowking's blog for finding piccies from the convention?

Thanks!

Doug

I bought the tripods & mancatcher @the Triples 5/6years ago, I believe that they came from 2nd city games.
They are a 3 part resin body with white metal legs kit. I had to drill, pin & Cyno all the legs. I also added steel pins for extra strength & plastic tube 'knee' joints. To aid with the balance I attached lead wts to the underside rear.
The rules are a sheet of A4 with the players controlling the Martians

Two words.  Motion sickness.   :(

Fast movement with a video cam triggers that in susceptible people and is a common user error.  My wife would have been throwing up midway. :(

When I wasn't looking away to keep myself from being dizzy (usually not prone to that  :? issue) I saw a wonderful collection of games and miniatures.  o_o Please, go slower next time, I probably missed some great stuff. :-*

Gracias,

Glenn

The balloon game looked very interesting and wow the War of the worlds game is truly stunning :o . I'd love to see a copy of the rules you used  :)

Cheers

Crikey, sir. I'm looking forward to today. Up diddly up, down diddly
down, whoops, poop, twiddly dee - decent scrap with the fiendish Red
Baron - bit of a jolly old crash landing behind enemy lines - capture,
torture, escape, and then back home in time for tea and medals.

I do normally take more care but due to lack of time I had to whizz around. I am at Cavalier in a couple of weeks and won't be putting a game on myself which will allow more time for a thorough steady review of the games on show. :)

I understand; just letting you know that slower would have made a better presentation, which would have added more to the wonderful display.

Gracias,

Glenn
