Schutztruppe Askari
« on: February 15, 2011, 05:13:22 PM »
With the Lettow-Vorbeck Miniature in Tactica coming up I was wondering if there is any difference between the ST Askari produced by Brigade games and Copplestone what their equipment is concerned. I gather that the Copplestone ones are supposed to be for the late 19th Century, but can you spot any striking difference or could I happily mix them? I sadly don't own any ospreys on the subject yet and the pictures on both sides are not that helpful, so any help from your side would be very appreciated.

Poly is your man for this, certainly the hats are taller on the 19c figures from Copplestone which is historically correct I beleive. If no one comes forth I could burrow into the mountain and take a comparison pic

The Copplestone ones have pre-war leather equipment and would appear (maybe) to be carrying the 1871 Mauser (my eyesight isn't really up to that analysis). They are in light kit (some of the Brigade ones are in full marching kit if memory serves).

None of the above things stop you from using them for the Great War. Only a minority of the Schutztruppe had G98s at the start of the war, and both the older and 1909 pattern leather equipment was worn during the war (the latter being issued to those that had G98s).

Beautiful, Plynkes! Thank you so much for your reply. I think I prefer the Copplestone versions for the main part of the normal infantry and now I know I could use them without any major pain! :)
