Bob Murch at it again...
« on: February 17, 2011, 10:59:25 AM »
Not sure whether these belong here, in Pulp or WWII but here they are:

I have not checked this closely but it kinda looks like Bob has some generic mannequins he's used for Sikhs, Brits and others.

They're very nice! What period can they be used for, then? 30s and 40s?

I have already forgotten when canvas webbing was introduces but I am pretty sure it was the 30s. While tartans were used well into WWI they would have been worn with khaki aprons. Lads in combat with military taratan would have been a rare sight in real historical events would have been a rare sight post 1900. Doesn't bother me and my lax ways, however.

Very nice! Just been painting my first pulp minis and they are basically painting themselves. Will be investing in some more in the near future.

Yep, they don’t look "historically accurate" to me either… Not that it matters. This is Pulp action after all and they are pretty nice figures :-*

A CANADIAN local hobby store with a small selection of historical wargames miniatures (mainly from Warlords). They also have a great selection of paint and hobby accessories from Vallejo, Army painter, AK Interactive, Green Stuff World and more.; https://www.kingdomtitans.ca/us/

Bob's British forces are mostly WW2/very late 1930s; the Bren gun that two of those heavy-weapon Scots are waving around wasn't adopted until 1938 or so.

(and his heavy weapon Sikhs are definitely WW2; I gather that a lot of Indian regiments didn't see any support weapons at all until 1942 or so...)

That said, the man also has a range of German Seebattalion troops that have NO business existing post-WW1, so historical schistorical...

Still great figures, always good to see more Pulp Figures!

Battle of France is your lot, really. Don't think kilts were worn after that.* Ought to have gas masks, though. The webbing is 37 pattern, as in 1937. So pretty limited window of usefulness there, outside of flights of fancy.

*Except, thinking about it  I think some of the commandos wore kilts on the St. Nazaire raid. And I think I've seen photos of kilted Highlanders in other places too. Let's just say they're for WWII and leave it at that.  :)

I'm tempted to get a unit of Scots, now.
Tutenes, Atque Cujus Exercitus?

Yes that's pretty much it except for VBCW.  :)

Gents,
I for one will certainly be ordering some of these!

With no intent to cause any friction...I always get such a chuckle when you gents begin discussing the finer points of pulp gaming (as if we are discussing Napoleonic)..."is this appropriate for the period?..."  (chuckle) lol

I wasn't aware that historical was a requirement for pulp gaming...certainly wasn't during the heyday of the "pulps"  so won't be an issue for me!

After all, when did you last see historical records for Weird Science, Robots, Walking tanks....

It's pulp!

So I say...bring'm on!  Give me Dr. Fu Poo's Mongol Army with his Samurai Ellite Guard...and some Nazi thugs (on loan from a nazi croney in Der Vaterland)....the more the merrier.

Now, where did I leave those notes on the death ray device?....

Of course you are right, but what you are overlooking is that some folks might want to use them for something other than Pulp gaming (note that this topic is not even on the Pulp board). And the discussion was in response to a direct request about their historical applicability, not mere button-counting for its own sake. Replying with a simple "It's Pulp, who cares?" to such a request would be less than helpful.

I weakened this week and finally got around to ordering some of this range... I went for the Sikhs though as they're so different from anything we already own.

These are luv-lee!

1938-40, more like 1940 if you are precious about such things ( I am  :)). Otherwise.... the world is your oyster.

They don't really fit in with their other British mates... the Summer uniformed ones, do they? Can I just paint them lighter and say they do? ::)
