Very much inspired by jimbibbly's immense creation.

I have embarked on a far simpler project, and I thought I would let you all have a look and comment!

I really ought to be painting for the Lead Painters league as time is growing short, but you need to ride the creative wave when it takes you!

Here is the basic start,

Roof.

Pointy roof!

Front door!

Thanks for looking, I will hopefully add some more tomorrow!

This looks interesting!

I'm looking forward to seeing how/if you go about adding a brick pattern to the exterior.

I had planned a rending finish for simplicity...

... now you got me thinking!

Here it is at the end of yesterday.

I have added the steps and fixed the door, done a experiment for the wall texture, out of PVA filler and water brushed on, seems to work, it does fill the lines that make it look like 3 cardboard tubes at least!

I have built the balcony and the upper door, although it still needs rails. I have capped the roof, and started the filler on that as well.

I also need to add some windows.

I am reasonably happy at this stage so we will see where it is at the end of the today!

Done some more.

This is a bigger project then I thought it would be!  This my first serious piece of scenery and I want to get it finished for a game in april, so here is the progress for the day.

The rear window.

Wall texture, made from a foam plate, I thought I would apply it in places and rend the rest save me having to do the entire thing!

A WIP of the balcony.

That is me done on this for today. Might have a go at it again tomorrow, to finish off the roof and the back rocks/build up. I have a few bits from a GW kit that I want to finish it up with, some sconces and other bits and bobs.

Then I get to paint it...

Any way. Let me know what you think

Don't let size get in the way, make it as big as you possibly can  lol

I like the progress on this and if I may add a couple of comments  :)

Really like the rocky cave on the side, that'll look good with a few growies on it  8)

Could I suggest for the balcony that you add a 'rim' around the bottom and have some support struts in the corners to give it a feel of robustness. Also, for the render you might be better to use a stippling motion fir the next coat, it can knacker your brushes quite quick but the results are worth it.

Looking forward to seeing this one progress  :)

WOW  :o
Advice from a master, I am honoured!

I will give the stipple a try for the next coat, I wasn't totally happy with the finish I was getting so thanks for that, I have got some cheap rubbish brushes that I can sacrifice!

The balcony, makes sense to add a rim, I could also put some butresses to make it a bit more robust as well. now should the rim be like this...

or this...

The difference being height or width.

Thanks again.

I'm certainly not a master, I just have far to much time on my hands  lol

For the balcony go for the second option and it would help if you make a 'jig' to help put it together. That was one of the things that was drilled into me when I first started work 'spend time making the jig and the piece will turn out fine'  :)

cheers

Hmmm, not wanting to embarrass myself and testing the hypothesis that there are no stupid questions...

...what exactly do you mean by make a jig?

It's not a stupid question at all  :)

A jig is an external framework that allows the work being carried out to be held in place done accurately and also repeated (not a problem in this case). The best starter material to use for a jig would be Lego.

Make a 'C' shape from the Lego, the same height as the balcony, either using the outer or inner measurement and use this to position your parts. Careful your glue doesn't stick the parts together  :)

You can also use the jig to cut pieces of a similar length which will help to keep everything even and straight.

Hope that's a help :)

cheers

I am up here right now and I cannot find your Legos anywhere... I did see some rather large chains hanging from the walls though... Hmmm
