Mammal Prehistoric Creatures
« on: February 10, 2011, 03:36:44 PM »
I'm looking for 28mm mammals that were around in the pre/during/after ice age times. Cave man times.

Any of you pulp adventures & lost world explorers know of companies that make these?

Thanks,
Warren

modified --- Oh, yes. Also looking for Terror Birds.

Steve Barber's prehistoric animal range: http://www.sbarber-models.clara.net/main.html
Acheson Creations: prehistoric mammals: http://achesoncreations.com/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&page=shop.browse&category_id=59&Itemid=1
Foundry miniatures: Terror Bird http://wargamesfoundry.com/historical_ranges/single_packs/animals/any/terror_bird_gpr064/?sector_id=1

I hope it helped a bit, thought that Copplestone castings also made a terror bird but I can't find it on their site?

And if the mammoth in this pack is the same size as the one the Natural History Museum used to sell separately, it's just right for 28mm:

(Of course, that would mean that everything else in there is too big!)

Dragonblood Miniatures did a great 'SkullCracker Bird' but it may be hard to find since they went out of business.  It's currently out of stock at the CoolMiniOrNot Shop.  I believe most of the moulds have been bought up but I'm not sure they're all back in production yet.

He's also apparently a big brute, standing around 50mm in height.

I know you're too old to play with toy soldiers. So give them to me... NOW!

Ooo! Ooo! I know this one!

Dragonblood's molds were bought by Cavalcade Wargames. That particular one can be found HERE.

I had thought DeeZee was as extinct as their subjects, good to know they're still around.

I have both their Smilodons, leaping and walking. Nice figures, a bit plain but well proportioned and no major issues. They've eaten a few adventurers in their day!

I have had some success converting plastic toy dinosaurs in the past and have recently found some plastic prehistoric mammals of a perfect size in K-Mart. If you were willing to compromise, they would probably paint up well enough. They included the sloth-like, armadillo-like and rhino-like mammals.

Reaper has some prehistorical mammals in their ranges:

sabbertooth, dire wolf, direbear, axebeak prehistoric bird, dire bear

Schleich - toyfigures may also fit although they differ in size; they got some prehistoric mammals in their range e.g. Mammoths

Opa,

Those Reaper animal minis are very nice. I will have to get some to add to my Jungle games.
