Modern Streets - Fast Method
« on: March 05, 2011, 07:13:16 PM »
Hi everyone!
I hope it is not considered MultiPost, but i did some experiments on a MDF piece to make a simple and fast version of a Concrete or Asphalt street.

making a piece will take a few minutes (not the painting!) and the result is accetable to me.

probably you will benefit from this, and since the "how to" section quite desert i thought to post my work here. :)

Seriously, making it is really simple and fast, and now i'm seriously tempted to make a whole table with this technique! :)

This is pretty bloody brilliant. I'm fairly certain I'm going to steal this in the not too distant future 8)

moreover it is REALLY SIMPLE to do! and fast!

The first time i tried with a small piece of MDF i wasn't really optimistic about the result... but the fine grain of the MDF is times better than the cork!

do not forget to see the painting part, the second part of the tutorial!

Hi, I tried to do something like that with cork, but your work is much better! I'll have to try it out.

Excellent work indeed  :o

If I was doing the Zed board again from stratch I'd definately take it down this route. There is scope for this in a little encounter table that's on the back burner, plus for my halo projects, hell you could even go urban on the dark future road system.

As I said, very nice indeed.

What was the masking tape brand you used?

Thanks guys!
Now i'm trying to make a crossing line with the sidewalks too... a new tutorial will be ready soon! ;)

What was the masking tape brand you used?
I really don't know! it was the cheaper tape i found - actually, we never have tapes in house, so i found it somewhere... nothing relevant, since you don't have to put it strong on the road, just make it set and the pushing of the sponge will make the rest!!!

Those look great man. Consider this attempted this week! :D
mate, (and not only you), i will LOVE to see all your works in this same thread!!! i will be honoured by this!

Brilliant stuff! I've been thinking of doing the same thing for a while - as I need a bit of an asphalt road as a backdrop for one or two of my LPL entries - and you've confirmed my suspicions. This is definitely the way to go!

I'll wait for your entries, then!
unluckly i'm not a good painter (actually i'm abnormally slow), so the lpl is quite far away for me.. :(

again, i'm gonna finish my second tutorial about it, with the sidewalks and the crossing lines!!
