Those are very nice indeed.  It's great to see people just standing around, not trying to hack each others' heads off.

agree totally with the last post..some of the little devils (or possibly some gargoyles to keep that militia busy at night?)

however, my absolute favourite for you to have a go at (and I note you have no mounted figures as yet) is this one:

one of Albrecht Durers most important images and one which is always discussed by art critics as to the symbolism. I think though that it is just a darned fine pose! That hound is kind of cool as well. Anyone else think so?

Yep pretty good, I like the zombie (OK probably not a zombie but looks like one to modern eyes) with serpents behind him too. Oh and the beastman...

the title of the piece is 'Knight, Death and the Devil'..so the zombie is basically the grim reaper (not the good humoured Terry Pratchett one) and the beastman is 'ol Nick himself.

I don't think I've seen anyone sculpting from great paintings before...there must be so many famous characters from this period (or others) that could be used as inspiration. What a fabulous and original idea.

I've seen a few based on this one  ;) :

There are a few more I'm sure but still a nice idea.

Some Da Vinci grotesques would be cool too.

these miniatures are simply awesome, if I can suggest a source of inspiration for new models I would advise to have a look at the work of Jacques Callot
He has a variety of impresive etchings depicting beggars, fools, and other grotesques.
Here is the wikipedia entry

some hi-res images

looking for these images I found a interesting post about beggards in art (it's in russian so i must suppose thats the subject) with a very good selecion of renaissance and baroque art

We've got a flat (from Nurnburg) of the Durer knight.
Never dared to try painting it yet.

If you're looking for more inspiration, try Rien Poortvliet's Daily Life in Holland 1566
Gary, Glynis, and Alasdair (there are three of us, but we are too mean to have more than one login)
