Magnificent Finder of Tasty Grubs
« on: March 16, 2011, 06:02:26 AM »
Looking at doing a mod of Detective Chimp using the Dreamblade Doctor Ape fig. Just got it in the mail with a WoW Frostsaber Prowler for a Zabu mod

Sculpt on the Deerstalker hat. Turn the test tube/needle? thing in to a magnifying glass. Repair tatters on the sleeves and try and paint a plaid.

For the magnifying glass, I want to do more than just a loop of wire. I was wondering if it's possible to suspend a bubble of glue in it for the lense and what kind would be best? Crazy Glue, Games Workshop Super Glue, Testors model glue. Anythings else someone could suggest. I just want a clear lens, it doesn't have to actually magnify.
Looking for a set of rules that adaptable for different genres.

It doesn't have a clear lense, but Reaper makes a 28mm metal magnifying glass accessory for the Sherlock Holmes figure in their Chronoscope range. You could probably buy it cheap as a separate component from their Boneyard service (or you could just buy the whole Sherlock Holmes figure and cut off his deerstalker cap for your conversion as well... ;) ).

With my past experience with trying to separate a metal part from a metal figure, I'll pass on that. I think it would be easier and safer for me to sculpt my own deerstalker. I like my thumb.

Got the putty work done on him. Will try to get some pics up tomorrow. I think I figured out how to do the magnifing glass (cut a ring off of a pen cap lid, now just need to use a hole punch to make a round of clear plastic and make it fit inside.).

Got the deerstalker and a shoulder cape. Sleeves on the arms. Hoping I got it smooth and nothing bad will show up when I paint him.

Ok, we have pictures

here are the four angles on him

Here is the comparison on size to other figs

Yeah, he seems a little big, but I'm ok with it.

Now to just paint him...

He's fantastic! I have that same fig waiting on my table waiting to become Professor Elemental's valet Geoffrey.
