It depends what I'm working on. If I'm doing a load of Orcs, British in khaki or African Natives, I do them in batches of 10, as I can use a limited pallette of colours & get them done fairly quickly.

If it's main characters or colourful "exotic" types like pirates, I do them in ones or twos because of the larger range of colours involved.

Either way, I still couldn't get close to one [well painted] mini a day  :(

Cheers,
Ian

Eight or ten would be too much to me, so the steps like faces, clothes etc. would take too much time and kill my motivation. 5-6 minis in one go is my upper limit.

I totally know what you mean. That happens to me. But unless I'm painting individuals I like to try and do a whole unit at a time, otherwise there tend to be annoying lapses in uniformity. And I need the "big push" to get them done. Otherwise my interest would wander to something else, and I would have hundreds of unfinished units.

"A day a mini" is just my thing, so I'm able to get my satisfaction every day and that's very helpful. Try it, you won't regret it :)

Well, I do have a lot of characters and individuals to get through. Maybe I'll give it a go, though I'm sure I don't put in enough painting hours a day to keep to that schedule. May try something similar, though, but with a slightly looser time-frame. Might be a good method for when I start my planned Gloire project, as none of the figures for that are from units with matching uniforms.

Right now on the painting desk I have:

Two elephants,
My third Mark IV British tank (nearly finished),
Some more Schutztruppe Askaris and their officers,
Some East Africa characters,
A Victorian muzzle-loading screw-gun that I've converted into a    breechloader for Great War use,
Some ragged Darkest Africa Askaris,
A Doctor Who UNIT mortar team,
A half-finished Tintin that I got bored with,
A few Lord of the Rings figures I got bored with,
Some poo counters (don't ask!).

Several of these will get some attention each time I go to the bench. Perhaps this is why I don't get the satisfaction of finishing things that often. I think I need to narrow my focus and stop trying to do so much at once.

That actually helps always. Ask Zoogla, he had the same problem until he had given up trying to make troups and switched to individual minis and started painting a mini every day. Immediately his outcome has increased. And that feeling is great, you know that each time you're going to paint you will get something finished, not first in two weeks but now, 2-3 hours later. How said, just give it a try.  :)

I do batches of 5 I find that by the time I've done one coat on all 5 the first mini is ready for the next.

I do all the faces & hands then the uniform / body then the weapons then the belts boots etc...

Can't seem to do all base colour then second then third etc.. like I've seen some do.

Couldn't do one mini per day no time with work & family.

My chinese back of beyond 62ish minis took me 8 months and i'mon varnishing now. Bit too long really...

Ok Professor - next one you paint, you MUST take in progress shots so we mere mortals can "unlearn what we have learned...."

PS Having painted these same miniatures myself, can I just say, in the style of Yosemite Sam "I hate you........."
Enjoying the game is ALWAYS more important than winning the game.

Wow, is it the one from Bob Murch??

It's so well painted, that it's difficult to be recognized.

I had to compare it bit for bit.

Very good!

Man those are sweet!  Nice terrain too.  Is that bush just under Tarzan's right hand made of ruberized horse hair?
