Looking to integrate back of Beyond RCW lists
« on: March 21, 2011, 05:49:12 PM »
Hi,

We are a group of italian gamers, we bought BoB army list for developing a
capaign project.

Some of us are interested to other armies, not yet included in the lists.

Those are Machno, Americans, and also other europeans (French, Italians) that were present in this
theatre.

Has Anybody developed a proposal for any of this lists?

Thank You
Stefano

Stefano,

Do you want historical lists, or BoB ones?

I'm assuming BoB, because no historical campaign would include Makhno, Americans and French, since American forces didn't come within 1000 km of Makhno.

In which case, why not write your own?

If you are going to limit yourself to historical forces present in Russia, then the European lists are mostly very boring - the exceptions being the French in the south and the British in Transcaspia.

Historical Makhnovists is easy enough. Some very good cavalry and tachankas. Some scummy infantry, maybe with an MG or two. The very rare appearance of something like an artillery piece, armoured car etc (best done by random roll). No-one has any actual orders of battle for Makhnovists, so the proportions are all guesswork anyway.

Here is a sheet forming an army to southern nationalists from recycled Russian players of the rules "Red Action"

All revised rules can be downloaded here:

 But in Russian.

Chris Peers back of beyond list has from memory Americans in there.  As regards French, Italians and the like, I tend to base mine on Chris's WWI lists and improvise from there.  As Mark says, it's all conjecture and make believe after all. When you get to theatres like Africa, for my Italians I will use known unit types in WWI type organisational make up.  Hope that helps.  Whereabouts in Italy are you?

I trie to find Chris Peer Back of Beyond list, but for the moment appear to be out of print (Amazon.co.uk).

In italy we are in Faenza (Between Bologna and Ravenna), here's a link to our website.

Chris's BoB lists are largely imaginary IMO. That includes his historical ones.

The only reason I see to buy them is if you use his rules, in which case his guidelines to troop types etc are pretty obviously part of the rules. Their cross-over value is low to zero.

Hi,

All of us are completely new for this period, and also the campaign that we are building follows a not-historical trace, allowing singles gamers to build up their map, and play a large skirmish level with his troops.

I think that for the beginning is a good way and, digging more into this period we can improve the historical side.

For the moment we bought BoB list, World at War Ruleset, and we ordered Little Contemptible Armies Rules in order to compare what is a better system to fight this period.
We also downoaded the wonderful work of Pygmy Wars, that has a very detailed army list for the Western Theater.

What do you think is a good set of rules or army list for this level?

Thank You
