Thanks for the answer Blackwolf. Think Hasslefree receives an order soon.

@Bezzo: I think this match is far from over. Next week will be exciting for me.

@ Dr. Kevin Moon: The Bolt Throwers, were originally made by a manufacturer called Hobby Products for the "Dark Eye" - RPG. Since the company left the business and the moulds were sold to Ral Partha, this is their new home:

Blackwolf - not the painting but the photography may see you lose this round. We can only vote on what we see...good luck for next round.

Blackwolf1066 had actually sent a replacement, brighter photo several days ago - which I, being a numpty, failed to use when I loaded the match  ::)
Sorry about that.
I have now loaded the correct image.

Photography does it for me in this case for Blackwolf - think I saw the darker version earlier today but didn't have time to vote = a tad grainy but entirely appropriate for the subject matter.

That being said I do like the dwarves and the telescope in particular! :D

Two very nice entries! I really like the dwarf bolt throwers but I think the close-ups may be a little too close, shots of the entire figures might have made them come out a bit more favourable 8) I really like the grainy second entry and in the end that one got my vote because I'm simply a sucker for cool miniature cars 8)

That's exactly my conclusion from this match. The close-ups make the paintjob look somewhat crude because you can make out every single brushstroke. Which isn't possible if you look at the miniatures with the bare eye.

I think i will re-shoot my round 5 entry, since this one suffers from ultra-close close-ups too.

Nevertheless this was an enjoyable match. It's an honor to be beaten by 5 good looking ladies and their ride.

It's a very brave painter who shows his or her figures in such close up detail. It rarely does them any favours - not even if you're Kevin Dallimore or one of the other maestros. I wouldn't do it. You have to remember that most photographs of miniatures already show the figures much bigger than their actual size on the table top or as they appear to the naked eye. If you then zoom right in, it exposes even the most brilliant paint job as just a lot of colour daubed on a small object!  ;)
