Good clean paint jobs, makes me remember mine that are sat gathering dust........looking forward to see how you finish the bases!

Lots of companies do pirates but I don't think you'll ever beat Black Scorpion. Foundry ones are nice as well. If you do find another source of marines let me know!

They look good to me. The only problem you will have with using other companies is the size difference.  Black Scorpian are way bigger than anyone elses. :?

There's nowt wrong with your painting, and we don't really do putting yourself down around here...  ;)

Must admit that redcoat in the top picture (right) looks very unenergetic to me, so you've done well to give it a bit of life.

Not sure how tall the Black Scorpion ones are, but Resina Planet does a  couple in the 32-35mm range:

Oh and Reaper Miniatures "Warlord" range is also around 32mm and has a faction of undead pirates (Razig) that might work  well with the Black Scorpion ones: http://www.reapermini.com/OnlineStore/Razig/sku-down

A few examples:

The "Mercenary" faction of the same range also has some piratey figures: http://www.reapermini.com/OnlineStore/Mercenary/sku-down

This is also relatively big I think (http://www.reapermini.com/OnlineStore/Special%20Edition%20Figures/sku-down/01420)

Their Dark Heaven line also has some suitable figures, but they are of mixed scale, some are large like the Black Scorpion ones, others are small.
This one is large (http://www.reapermini.com/OnlineStore/pirate/latest/03353#detail/03353_g_jackson_1):

Your painting is fine.
Painting is like a grade 1 art class, as long as the colours are within the lines....
Yearly painting challenges only show me how useless I am at painting...
