Mounted figures question
« on: April 06, 2011, 02:40:56 AM »
I'm looking to do a conversion at some point and I'm just wondering if anyone has any suggestions for a figure or preferably a pack of figures of mounted knights with a vampiric or dark elf look to them (without the crazy hyper-spiky S&M look of GW dark elves).

I'm looking for figures that aren't too ornate or too heavily armoured - plain medium or light cavalry. They could be regular-looking elves I guess, so long as they sneeringly arrogant scowl to them, or a similarly grouchy disposition. Mounts should just be plain old horses (not undead ones or lizards or whatever).

They're basically medium/light combat cavalry, but are also used for nasty bloodsport hunts, of prisoners or other victims.

Scale is 30-35 mm. Plastic would be best, but I can certainly make metal work. Plastic is important mainly because cost is an issue. I don't need that many (5 or 6), but the few figures I've seen that might kind of half-work are all $14 USD (or worse, 10-12 EUR  D: ). I know mounted figures always cost more, but I'm kind of hoping there's a pack set somewhere I can make work?

Something like this or this is sort of what I'm looking for, with weapons more like the second, but heads more like the first. Both mounts would be perfectly suitable (what I don't want is full plate and a big horse tabard... that's not really appropriate to light hunter-killer types).

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

Have a look at the old Grenadier high elves on horseback now sold by Mirliton perhaps. Fairly simple plain 'high elf' type cavalry you could convert away with in chainmail and surcoats some with tall helms, some bareheaded. For light wild cavalry I like their mounted wood elves for that partly celtic look. I'm not really sure if they fit your description well enough, but they are plain and simple. I'll look for their web site when I get home

Some of those wood elves are quite decent. And the High Elf scouts are okay too. Shame the scale's too small though :(

The Grenadier models are bulky 28mms, they don't look out of place among Warhammer models so don't worry about the "25mm".

Need edged weapons of some kind, not bows. :/
