Some Confederates I painted (update: April 14, 2012)
« on: April 10, 2011, 04:21:09 PM »
I painted this small unit of Confederates and felt like sharing (especially since there were so many ACW threads lately)

Perry plastic?
I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it anymore and what is it seems weird and scary.

Really great paint job which brings out the most of these figures 8)

...and yes they are Perry's Plastic ACW.
A CANADIAN local hobby store with a small selection of historical wargames miniatures (mainly from Warlords). They also have a great selection of paint and hobby accessories from Vallejo, Army painter, AK Interactive, Green Stuff World and more.; https://www.kingdomtitans.ca/us/

Brilliant paintjob! I really like those smooth colours, how did you get them?

Hard to answer. I simply don't use a triad like the foundry one. I mix a base colour and highlight it up with white of khaki. 2 or 3 highlights, applied in 2 very thin layers. So I can manage a more decent and smooth effect than with a fixed triad.

I've got those on my desk right now.  How'd you get those tiny eyes so well defined?

I am no fan of Perry Plastic ACW infantry, in fact I think they are not very good figures at all. Partly because I think it was their first venture into plastics, and Renendra had not ironed out all the moulding issues. You sir have proved just how good they can look. I would be honoured to have those figures on my table anytime. Well done. It won't make me like the figures, but wow what a paint job.

They will stop degrading us,
They will not control us,

Nothing fancy technique wise. Just paint a black line and two white dots. It's just a matter of practice. The first allways look shaky. Older minis of mine look like cross-eyed manga characters.

@Trooper: I agree that they are far from being Perrys best but I think they are still much better than most of the stuff that other companys sell (especially plastics)

Bravo to you on the work you put into them.  Have you thought about putting a instructional video on YouTube regarding how you painted them?
