Foundry's and Redoubt's ACW figures
« on: April 09, 2011, 01:55:44 AM »
How does Redoubts Civil War figures compare sizewise to Foundry's American Civil War Out West range this is what I have and have been looking at getting some infantry.
I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it anymore and what is it seems weird and scary.

They're very compatible size-wise : Redoubt deliberately moved away from their usual 'heroic' style to produce figures that would be compatible the Perry-sculpted Foundry stuff. Of course, the Foundry figs have better facial detail, but this is not too much of an issue since the Redoubt lads come with separate heads (you can even graft Foundry heads on Redoubt bodies if you are so inclined).

These bases contain a mix of figures from both manufacturers on each base:

As the others say, the two ranges are quite compatible, and can be mixed together in units. Some of the Redoubt marching poses are excellent, they get the right shoulder shift pose spot on. Their "Band of Brothers" set is a real beauty as are the VMI cadets. My only gripe with the Redoubt range are the horses which are not as good as Foundry or Perry. In fact the best Civil War horses around at the moment for my money are the Perry plastic ones. All my metal cavalry are mounted on them, even the Redoubt ones, with a bit of leg widening.
They will not force us,
They will stop degrading us,
They will not control us,
We will be victorious!!

I agree with trooper : the Redoubt ACW horses are pretty dire and are best replaced with other mounts.

Again I'd agree, very compatible. Redoubt are slightly taller and bulkier but I'd have no reservations about using them together in the same unit. Looking at matakishi's pic and knowing the above, you can probably tell which are which, but is it worth trying?  ;)
