Gettysburg boardgame review

Have had this game for a few years now and it's a compact and easy to learn boardgame revolving around the battle of Getttysburg. The game is based on hexes and unit counters, easy to grasp rules of movement and combat. Units arrive according to the historical conditions and the units having their own combat rating based on who's side they are on and what type of unit it is.

The game takes place over 3 days, and can be broken up in a way so that you only play one day as a mission, or a 3-day campaign. Victory is achieved through control of important locations that at the end of the turn are rewarding the one holding them with a set number of victory points.

Easy to set up, easy to learn, fun for both veteran and newbie boardgamers and there is enough depth and tactical decisions in there to give you a good replay value.

I should mention, that this is the 1988 release/print as there seem to be several versions of this game dating back to the 60's. This is also seems to be the 125th anniversary edition you can find on BoardGameGeek.

I've not seen the Gettysburg, but others of the Smithsonian editions seemed fair departures from the original AH games. Guadalcanal in particular sticks in my mind as being almost a 180, given that the original 60's game was land warfare(mostly?), and the Smithsonian was about the naval battles.

I suspect this is closer to the original Gettysburg game by the looks of it.

Also, one or two didn't have AH precursors; as I recall. Mustangs was such.

Since this is a forum for figs, I didn't notice comments on stacking. Do you think this could use figs, ala Battle Cry? Probably Hair Roller units, though.
