Pimp My Kroot
« on: April 16, 2011, 11:22:31 AM »
GW's plastic kroot figures are so versitile as the basis for VSF conversions, as seen already in several threads on the VSF board, that I thought that it was time create a 'home' where members can show off their kroot conversions together in one thread.

To start the ball rolling, here are my Tirailleurs Cytheriens (parrotmen of Venus in French service)

Torsos and upper legs are Perry ACW zouaves.

Some of my Dutch Venusian Parrotmen.

Very easy conversions - Perry Napoleonic British Riffleman bodies cut off at the boot. Kroot head and feet added. You can angle your cut on the boot and calf to make some interesting poses, from standing straight up, to leaning forward in a predatory manner.

Sorry about the awful pics. I am an awful photographer  ;)

Barsoomian Tharks made by doubling up Kroot torsos and arms.

You guys make my Cytherian Parrotmen look woefully inadequate.
I really do like the idea of cutting the rifle down to make a jezzail or shotgun though.  I still might retrofit mine like that.

Wow, some nice ones here: those tharks are amazing! And I really like the Tirailleurs Cytheriens (although I always thought it was spelled Cytherea/n?)

Mine are very minor conversions, but I thought I'd post 'em anyway.

The first couple are beast handlers - they use their swords to coax giant animals (armoured bear type things - not pictured) to do their bidding, with varying levels of success!  I was disappointed with the weapon variety in the kroot box.  Swords made from bits of placcy, pistols are trimmed down rifles.

I also wanted leaders for my Venusian tribe, so I made a berserker and a shaman.  Just bits of greenstuff for leather cap/greaves.  Bits of weapon barrel for the shaman's staff.  He just carries knives and his comedy claw (made from left over weapon bits).

I'm working on a couple of other conversions, but I have no idea when I'll finish them  ;D

Apologies for bases and photos ;)

Ok, I did go ahead and cut down the rifles on my Parrotmen.  The new Cytherean Jezzails mean I can fit three more models into the same space in the carrying case.  This pleases me.

Inspiring conversions all.

French, Dutch, Martian, Venusian, I can't decide which I like best, though "Kroot" almost sounds Dutch.

The "ens" instead of "an" at the end is the French spelling, as in "Tirailleurs Algeriens". Bullshot was just showing off using that spelling  lol  ;)

I like your blue versions too! Nice "unearthly" bases.

DOh! (Slaps forehead) French, of course!  lol

Cheers - that was my intention with the bases, I'd still like to add more detail though.

Yes. "Tirailleurs Cythériens" and "Tirailleurs Algériens" is better, if your computer accepts to type "é"  ;)

I like these Cythériens. Not my period and context for a wargame, but... these would rather tempt me. They look almost historical if you accept the idea of VSF.
