1920s US Sailors [Pics added 01/05]
« on: April 20, 2011, 09:22:20 PM »
Hi all, I'm looking for some advice. I've just finished painting a batch of Pulp Figures US sailors and want to add to the force, I've seen that Tiger Miniatures do a new Sand Pebbles range and I'm hoping maybe someone might be able to advise me on their compatibility?
They look ok in my opinion they're both characterful sculpts but if anyone has any sound comments or pictures would be even better they'd be very gratefully received.

Thanks.

The Old Glory ones is a better choice IMHO...

The old CannonFodder ( now Blazeaway?) ones are your best bet.

Are the Old Glory ones you mentioned Blue Moon or have I missed something on the site. I do like them, they'd definately fit with a bit've a modification to their hats. Its a shame that they don't expand the range to include more generic sailors instead of characters as I really need riflemen and a MG.

The Blazeaway ones also look very compatible, I especially like the Lewis gunners! Is there a UK distributer for them?

I have the Blue Moon Sailors and also the new Tiger Sand Pebble Sailors. They are all very tall and tower above my Pulp Rocket men figures. I think Old Glory do some Sailors in the US/Spanish war range that may be what traveller is referring to.

You're correct. There is another pack in the Pershing/Mexico range

Just checked out the Blazeaway ones and the postage seems rediculously reasonable seeing as they're coming from Aus! Really fancying their lewis gunners but their other minis seem a bit spindly to match with Pulp.

Does anyone have any of the old glory ones they would be prepared to part with? I don't have much to trade but my paypal is paying out like there's no tomorrow at the moment. Only looking for maybe 5 or so figures so buying direct is pretty much out of the question.

I have just finished painting 25 of the Tiger Sand Pebbles figures and I was very impressed (the website pics don’t do them justice). They came with minimal flash and were nicely detailed – I particularly like the animated faces and poses. They got a run last night against some copplestone Bolsheviks (with which they are a nice size match) and lost badly - but I blame don't Tiger.

I also have some of the Blaze Away figs, which as you can see in the pic below, are noticeably smaller. The size difference isn't so noticable on the table and I happy to use BA and Tiger on the same table, particularly the Lewis gun team which is a nicely posed sculpt and adds some much needed MG firepower to the Tiger range.

The pic, left to right: pulp zeppelin troopen, Tiger, BA, Tiger, BA, pulp

Thats a very useful photo thanks. I think I'm going to go with the Lewis gun from Blazeaway and Traveller has very kindly offered me a few Old Glory riflemen to push my numbers up.

I'll add some pics when the LPL is over, I have one entry left which includes the sailors then I'll stick up a shot of my full crew, hopefully with some finished OG models in there too!

Thanks for your help everyone.

As promised pics of my sailors.
They've all seen time on the LPL to mixed results.

So here they are the Crew of the USS Markham. These are the first Pulp Figures I have painted and I have to say I really enjoyed it. I have five more riflemen (Old Glory this time) on the way to bolster the force, courtesy of Traveller. I also hope to add a Lewis gun, probably from Blazeaway as I love the figures and they appear to be cheaper and easier to import than Pulp.
Now all I need is an opponent...
