HIJMAS Mikasa (painted sample photos 1/05/11)
« on: April 29, 2011, 10:15:28 PM »
I had an idea for a while now to build an aether ship that would do the Earth/Mars run.

His Imperial Majesties Aether Ship Mikasa

I'm still working out the details and sketching but today I have been making a test peice for the side 'viewing' decks to get the proportions right before I start to draw anything in cad.

The idea is to have interior access and limited lighting...

Needless to say that this is going to be long term  ::)  lol

Pictures to follow this evening of the sample  :)

cheers

James

You guys are sooooooo funny  ;D

I'm thinking it'll be about 2-3 foot long but this is no way decided yet and it'll be armed and armoured so if you think your poxy little flyers can take it on, be my guest... :P

Sample piccys below. There are still quite a few things to sort out, material thicknesses, plank spacing, location of lighting rig, how to get inside etc so this is only a teaser for the time being  ;D

I'll get a coat of paint on it over the weekend as well.

First off we have the separate parts which will make it easier to paint

Then the whole assembly

A view down the corridor and my sculpted crewman for scale (he's about 28mm for toes to top of head)

And a close up of the riveting, I think they need spacing out a little bit more...

There might be a bit of height given to the corridor sections because my Copplestone 'Japanese' are brushing the ceiling on the top deck.

I'm also open to suggestions for a colour scheme both inside and out. Thinking lighter colours on the inside and darker on the outside.

There will be the solar boiler, a command deck and staterooms etc...

C+C always welcome

cheers

James

That guy took the order a little too literally when the captain announced "All hands abandon ship!"  :)

Excellent stuff. That ship's going to be big enough to fight a skirmish game inside!

Thanks chaps (apart from the groan worthy jokes  ;D  ;) )

I undercoated it today and here we have a couple of photos that show it off a bit better. I'll probably paint it tomorrow...

It's not just the Japanese that could use it  ;)

cheers
