A Very Jacobite Civil War

I found some Britannia 1914 Brits and Germans in the garage this week. The Britannia HLI in particular are really nice and full of character. Naturally the Brits fanned a notion of doing VBCW in a small way to capitalise on the 20mm British buildings and scenery I've collected for my Winter of 79 project. I've also been looking for an excuse to buy some of Rolf's Black n Tans in Tams.

Then I found this whilst doodling on the interweb:

"After losing their throne at the conclusion of WWI, Maria Theresa died in 1919 and was succeeded as the Jacobite heir by her son Crown Prince Rupprecht (1869-1955). Rupprecht had served as a general in WWI, but was among Hitler’s opponents in WWII. Under his leadership the Bavarian royals maintained significant property rights, and a prominent position in Bavarian culture. He was also very proud of his royal Stuart ancestry, and was known to wear the kilt on appropriate occasions… Royal Stuart tartan, of course".

 
Et Voila! A Very Jacobite Rebellion - set in the 1920's or 30's and led by Bonnie Prince Rupprecht.  You couldn't make it up.

The idea of a Bavarian Freikorps wearing kilts made me laugh - but as I have the 1914 Germans in Picklehaubes and Jager Shakos, why not give them Royal Stuart tartan helmet covers. Da Dah!

I really don't know whether this idea has got much in the way of legs expecially without being able to expand my Britannia figs but I think there's a couple of fun games in there.

The Britannia 1914 Germans don't lend themselves to adding a kilt without major surgery but tartan picklehaubes are on the workbench!

i washed my Germans as normal before painting and next morning they had sprouted and started to crumble in places!

I'm left with one.

Given I've finally go a date for going into hospital, i'm not taking this project forward and going to concentrate of Crisis in Alcovia and Winter of 79.

Soapy water.

Something else may have been lurking in the bottom of the container I washed them in - I'll still paint the one remaining german with a tartan pickelhaube though and post it here.
