Mid to Late 1600's Indians (Southwest)
« on: May 08, 2011, 02:05:49 PM »
Hopefully  :)  this is the correct forum for my post.   ???

I have plenty of Apaches for the 1800's  ;)  but back  the 1680 era  :o  the Southwest tribes (Apache, Navaho, Pueblo peoples, etc.) dressed differently and were armed differently.   ::)  Guess that is obvious...   o_o

1) I need help finding sketches, artwork, drawings of the Indians the Spanish faced during those years.  I can find some (and plenty of Indians that were aligned (allied in some cases) with the Spanish,) but any pointers to more would be great.

2) I need figure sources for Indians either open handed or with bows, appropriate melee weapons, matchlocks, and flintlocks.  I have some weapons from Conquest but always looking for more choices.

3) Books covering that era would be great too.

Gracias,

Glenn

Interesting, unexplored period you have there!

Mission Indian tribes might be a good place to start:

Achomawi, Atsugewi, Cahuilla, Chimariko, Chumash, Costanoan, Esselen, Hupa, Karuk, Kawaiisu, Maidu, Mission Indians, Miwok, Mono, Patwin, Pomo, Serrano, Shasta, Tolowa, Tubatulabal, Wailaki, Wintu, Wiyot, Yaha, Yokuts, Yuki, Yuman

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mission_Indians

google the old tribe names for images, for results like this:

Great idea.  I was considering that but the sheer number of groups listed for California was pretty extensive.  Your examples have convinced me of the merit of that process.

Superb!

Gracias,

Glenn
