Judge Dredd Miniatures Game- Is anyone playing?
« on: May 10, 2011, 02:50:49 PM »
Hi everyone,

I looking to get into a new miniatures game and I've been checking out the Judge Dredd game. Has anyone on The LAF played it? What are your thoughts so far?

Thanks!

Brian

I am very much looking forward to giving it a go, but havent played it yet.

I have been busily buying as many of the re-released and new figures as possible though (I picked up the Angel Gang and the Holocaust suits at Salute).  I missed a lot of the figures when they were released for Gangs of Mega City One and I dont want that to happen again.  I am hoping to carry my current post apoc project into Dredd in a Cursed Earth sort of way.

So in short I am not much use to you with regard to the how the rules play, but I am very interested in how they end up.

As the rules are free to download I dare say that a hell of a lot of the people around here have at least read them.

Been reading it through a couple of times and am just readying a handful of Street Judges for painting. Will prime today or tomorrow. No game on for at least another week, though.

My thoughts:
  • Nothing revolutionary, but a nice ruleset that still needs some fine-tuning and addidtions
  • D10 - huge improvement from GoMC1
  • Scenarios - like most of the game apart from the d10 mechanics seem to be a recycling of GoMC1
  • New figs alongside the CoMC1 figs - I especially noticed the Holocaust II as an SST heavy battlesuit with some add-ons
  • Seems playable - and especially the possibility of playing the Law is another improvement on the GoMC1 rules
Ask at the LAF, and answer shall thy be given!

I'm a huge Judge Dredd fan, and thus can't wait to give this a go. I'm putting in an order with my FLGS for two of the starter "gangs" as soon as they're available.

I see Mongoose has just posted updated rules. And still no Citi-Def. :(

Give them feed-back that you need Citi-Def. Get your gaming pals to do likewise. There's no reason they should not listen.  :)

As noted HERE yesterday, Mongoose has (new? re-issue?) citi-def figures that are due to be released over the next few weeks.  There is a also a shot of new Judge Dekker and Hondo Judge Inaba figures.

Its not the same as having the rules for them I know, but at least the citi-def rules will likely be in the next update :)

I just downloaded the new (free) rules and intend to use it for my generic sci-fi 15mm gaming...

The plastic gang member set that they made for Gangs of Mega City One has a helmeted head and other parts to make Citi-Def troopers so I've got some of those ready.

Hopefully there will be rules for full on Block Mania as well.  :D

How do you tell that the rules are updated - has there been an update since the first pdf-version?

I know not except what this tells me:

http://www.tabletopgamingnews.com/2011/05/16/46581/

"Mongoose Publishing have posted a free, updated version of the Judge Dredd Miniatures Game rules.

From their announcement:

We have just updated the Judge Dredd Miniatures Game.  As always, it is free to download.

This time around, we have updated the core rules with a raft of suggestions and errata suggested by players, and have added new weapons, new forces (including Cursed Earth Desperadoes, Sky Surfers, the Lone Vigilante, and the Angel Gang), new Mercenaries (including Judge Dredd himself) and lots more!"

OK, thanks, that seems like an update - don't remember having seen Angel Gang and Desperadoes in the set I have. I just asked, because the Wargame Vault says: This item was added to our menu on 2011-02-28 - no mention of it being a newer version....

Well, I'll try fetching it and have a look...
