3rd (East Kent) Regiment of Foot
« on: May 10, 2011, 10:55:43 PM »
Hi Guys, can anyone tell me, if the collar and cuff facings on the 3rd (East Kent) Regiment of Foot during the Zulu War were the same design as those of the 24th Foot?
I have some Zulu War Brits and would like to paint them as 'The Buffs' but can't find any pictures:(

Cheers

Gaz

I'd have offered to look in the Buffs museum, but it's been sneaked out of existence the contents now in the N.A.M.  :o

Judging by the photo in Osprey MAA 198, The British Army on Campaign 1856-1881, the answer is yes you can use your figures.

Undress frock with buff collar,  no facing colour on trefoil pattern cuffs, buff coloured valise equipment, standard home service trousers and leggings. From the photo the helmets look like they've been dyed/stained a buff or khaki colour. The 24th had facing colours on the cuff, that's about the only difference but that's just a matter of painting.
