Ran into another DVD sale....

Not a great movie, but has a lot of inspiration for Victorian/Gothic monster-hunting:

Ask at the LAF, and answer shall thy be given!

Steve Coogan being a hero of mine, I just got two seasons of 'Saxondale'. Having seen half of them now I have to ask our British friends: What model of Englishwoman is Vicky the job booker modelled on? She makes me wanting to strangle her and roar with laughter at the same time.

A cavalry movie with no war and inspiration for Americanizing A Very British Civil War.

Also got PBS's March of the Bonus Army.

Near Dark is an underrated modern classic. And stars many of the cast of Aliens, strangely.

I love the scene where they decide to trash the redneck bar. Pure nasty.

I took a former girlfriend to the cinema to see this film, she walked out halfway through the redneck bar scene, I unfortunately had to follow her. :? I only managed to subsequently watch the rest of the film years later on TV. (Needless to say shortly after that episode we parted company...) ;)

Not a movie, but this arrived this morning:

Supernatural, complete series 1 - 3 boxed set, only £25 off Amazon.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Supernatural-Complete-Season-Jared-Padalecki/dp/B0019FLTG4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1231844540&sr=1-1

Not to everyone's taste, I'm sure, but I love this series. The humour is just the right side of geeky and the story arc never gets in the way of the brilliant "monster of the week" episodes.

Well worth checking out if you haven't already seen it.  :)

Now, if only I can get near the TV for more than ten minutes....  ::)

A couple months ago I watched La lengua de las mariposas (Butterfly, in English).  This was a cute coming-of-age story about a little boy at the start of the Spanish Civil War, showing some of the building tension.  Reminded me somewhat of Cinema Paradiso, although perhaps a little more grim.  The only really martial aspect I remember are some shots of Guardia Civil rounding up bad elements.

I now want to watch El Espinazo Del Diablo (The Devil’s Backbone), by Guillermo del Toro, of Pan's Labyrinth fame.
