Utu is a great movie. Was that DVD or VCR?

Hi Scurv, it was DVD!

I'd to purchase this movie from the states even though it was a region 4 (Australia) DVD.

I actually watched the movie yesterday. I first saw this movie when I borrowed Michael Broadbent's VCR copy. Fell in love with the whole fiction, non fiction story.

Best wishes,
Helen

A while ago I received "The 11th hour" about the Cretan resistance movement. Finally, thanks to being poorly, I had a chance to watch it and it was really good. Great documentary.
I can really recommend it, even with the small factual mistake at the beginning of the film, stating that Metaxas answered with OXI or NO to the Italian order to surrender. He actually answered in French, the language of diplomacy in Greece at the time, with: "Alors, c'est la guerre."
A pity no miniature company is producing 28mm Cretan resistance, the most successful military insurgency... ever, according to a CIA officer in the film.

Watched El Espinazo Del Diablo (The Devil’s Backbone), by Guillermo del Toro, who directed Pan's Labyrinth.  This was marketed as something of a horror movie here in the USA, and I'd passed it by any number of times at the video rental place due to the creepy ghost on the cover.  (I'm not a fan of wriggling-in-my-seat horror movies.)  When I found it on a list of movies related to the Spanish Civil War (SCW), however, and informed that it's not really a horror movie, I thought I'd give it a try.

It's a pretty good movie.  With the creepy little boy ghost, it has some of the same child-dealing-with-the-supernatural-to-overcome-personal-adversity elements that Pan's Labyrinth had.  Unfortunately, while set in the SCW, the war has very little bearing on the plot, which could just as easily have been set in contemporary times with very little dialogue change.  Still, decent movie on its own, and especially fun for anyone who, like me, is halfway through Beevor's The Battle For Spain.  It might be interesting, come to think of it, to insert a little "weird" into a SCW-themed wargame.

Not a movie, but this arrived this morning:

Supernatural, complete series 1 - 3 boxed set, only £25 off Amazon.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Supernatural-Complete-Season-Jared-Padalecki/dp/B0019FLTG4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1231844540&sr=1-1

Not to everyone's taste, I'm sure, but I love this series. The humour is just the right side of geeky and the story arc never gets in the way of the brilliant "monster of the week" episodes.

Well worth checking out if you haven't already seen it.  :)

Now, if only I can get near the TV for more than ten minutes....  ::)

I like Supernatural it is almost what Demons should have been if they hadnt pandered to the teen idle audience

Just picked up "The Lost Battalion" last month.  I have to say, it's my favorite World War One movie.

Last week the Babylon 5 Ultimate Collection arrived, all five seasons, plus the spin off Crusade and all the made of TV movies.  About 96 1/3 hours not including the extra features on 42 discs.

Should keep me entertained for a while.  :D  :D

I may have to trawl eBay for some of the Vorlon minis Mongoose made years ago.

lol Just watched "OSS 117: Cairo, Nest of Spies" (OSS 117: Le Caire, nid d'espions) yesterday and I'm still laughing!  lol

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0464913/

This 2006 French spoof/parody of the "spy in a tuxedo" genre hits the more serious mid 20th Century OSS 117 French books and films and the early James Bond hard.  This one is set in 1955, and there has to be a pulp spy game or campaign in there somewhere.

I watched The Professional the other night.  Thirteen-year-old Natalie Portman is totally...and disturbingly hot.  The scenes of her cleaning the apartment in her wife-beater are soft-core porn.  I didn't realize I had so much of the letch in me.  My eight-year-old son was also intrigued by her, although not in the same way.  "Hey!" he said, "That's princess Amidala!"

Yeah, hope the Feds aren't reading this.  For the record, let it be known that I hove no child-pornography on my computer; nor have I otherwise shown an interest in such fare.

Oh, and way too much information there, dude.  Ewwww...
