So awesome! Does anyone make a mini?

BlueRay, eh? How has the film fared from remastering?

Sorry, got the regular version. The blueray image was the first one that showed up on the search.

Well I rented these from my uncle:

Hunt for the Red October
Red Dawn
Shaun of the Dead
Stalingrad

Guess that will inspire me for my Neo-Soviet Imperial Guard force and my zombie horde...  ;D

Longtime ERB fan that I am, I rented the truly awful direct-to-video PRINCESS OF MARS:

I tried to tough it out, but I couldn't stand the awful acting by Antonio Sabato, Jr. (as John Carter) and ex-porn star Traci Lords (as Dejah Thoris) and I gave up halfway through...

In a way, I'm glad they released this abomination as it will be a blueprint of what not to do for Pixar.

I also rented MONSTERS VS. ALIENS at the same time and I thought that it was good harmless fun.

Great Movie and a horrible movie

Good news first I just watched “Up in the air” with George Clooney what an absolute GEM and in MHO Oscar worthy for Movie, Actor, Actress and Supporting actress for Anna Kendrick(I called Marisa Tomei for my Cousin Vinny before anyone else did and I think this Girl should get a nod too) Even a small part by JK Simmons one of my favorite actors is great.
The movie would be a great choice for any couples looking to see something that both might like and although there are some funny and uplifting parts of the movie it is pretty depressing overall an extremely poignant for this time in our history.
41/2 out of 5

So horrible

Princes of Mars with Traci Lords, OMG look like it was filmed and written by a 12 year old. I apologized to all 12year olds they could have done better. Although I started to watch it to see Traci (who is still hot) I could not watch the whole thing (thank God It was free) Just thinking of this film makes me puke just a bit in my mouth. Edgar Rice Burroughs is spinning in his grave. Save yourself and don't even look at this piece of (fill in the blank)

Something nice in the post today...

Three disc collector's edition of the Hindi historical/romantic epic Jodhaa Akbar. Came with a shed load of very nice postcards. Here's just a few of them:

I'm sick and tired of not getting to see all of this whenever it is on the telly. It's always on at some stupid hour like Two O'Clock in the morning and so I either don't notice it is on, miss the start, or fall asleep in in the chair while watching it. Well not any more. Finally I shall see it all the way through. A tiny bit too much sitting about in palaces talking and not quite enough people having their heads stoved in for my liking (but you can say the same about El Cid, and definitely about ...yawn... Ben Hur), but any film which features people being stamped on by elephants is okay by me.

@ Chairface, may I ask were you get this film and did you notice if it have a French soundtrack? My sister would LOVE to have this movie but she doesn’t quite understand English well enough...

Great pickup Dylan, This movie alongside Mughal Eazam were given to me by my former Indian Housemate. They are great movies an with English Sub-Titles However, the former is the better of the two if you like to see a good battle with elephants, cavalry, infantry an artillery. Oh, an I just adore the Indian love story of both.

Best wishes,
Helen

Looks really interesting but is it any good?

Also are we talking serious bucks for a rare import?

A tenner for the "Collectors Edition", which is odd as the ordinary 1-disc/no postcards version was fifteen quid (£20 if you want Blu-Ray).

It's like most historical epics, some good battle scenes and in between lots of talking. But visually a feast throughout, and not done on the cheap neither. Though it is a Bollywood movie it isn't really done in the traditional Bollywood style, i.e. the characters don't inexplicably burst into song and dance routines for no reason at the drop of a hat. What musical bits it does have are managed without breaking the mood, by having such things as palace entertainments for the Emperor.

Basically it is a love story about a cross-cultures romance between the Mughal Emperor and a Rajput princess, with the lesson that Muslims and Hindus ought to be getting it on on the bedroom, rather than massacring one another with elephants, cannons and big knives.

Some scenes from the opening battle (better make sure the damn thing works). On my signal, unleash elephants!

"No, wait! Please! Surely there has been some misunder-"

Oof! He's gonna have a headache in the morning.

Edit: Thanks, Helen. Haven't seen that one. I'll have to check it out.

Semi Pro Pontypool and the Illusionist.

All very good and different in their own ways.

Semi Pro - Will Farrell just does 70's themed comedy so well

Pontypool - brilliant fresh take on the zombie genre.

The Illusionist -it's no 'The Prestige' but good none the less. (The Prestige however is amazingly good with Chris Nolan at the helm, Christian Bale, Michael Cain Hugh Jackman, and an great cameo by Serkis and David Bowie as Tesla).
