I just finished watching "The Ghost Writer" with Ewan McGregor and was surprised how much it kept making me think of a Lovecraft story without the horror elements.

Just watched the 1939 "Beau Geste" starring Gary Cooper.

Good pulpy fun, cardboard characters and all. The evil, scarred Sgt. Markov!

"All the Kings Men" about the "Vanished Batallion" that disappeared in Gallipoli. Interesting story, I already bought some Woodbine miniatures to paint up the Sandringham company

Finally! Not as good as Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines or The Great Race but still fun.  Susan Hampshire is delicious!

Just watched "Simba", a movie from the 50´s about the Mau-Mau rebellion. Not bad condiering it´s more than 50 years old. It gave a good feel for the terrain and the combatants involved. I just wish someone would sculpt those askaris:

Solomon Kane (just watched it and liked it, shame the limited success makes a sequel unlikely)

Sukiyaki Western Django

Wolfhound: the rise of the warrior (Russian fantasy, not watched yet).

Today it's me, tomorrow it's you (spaghetti western, not watched yet, but no high expectations, pictures on the back are not from the movie, that's sloppy)

I was following the making of a bit, not much info, but it turned out a lot better then I expected. Its pretty slock fantasy, but then it kind of always was that way.

The villains were weak, I will say that, and Kane wasn't nearly as evil enough at the start. Ok its a guilty please to me.

Just watched it and well... I didn't hate it as much as every other Takashi Miike film I've seen.  :-I But Tarentino can't act and as with Mr. Miike's other movies, there are plenty of bits that don't make sense or are outright absurd/silly. And Tarentino can't act and should stop doing these cameo's.

Tarantino has been in freefall since Jackie Brown. The perils of being of a magpie I suppose. Who needs originality in the post-modern age when the ability to mash elements of cross-cultural trash can be seen as something wonderful? The Kill Bill films have to be some of the most over-rated films of all time. All the sophistication of a twelve year old's sensibility.

But that's just me.

Funny that ain't it, as I felt Jackie Brown was his best film and one where I thought he'd married his signature style to a story where you actually care what happens to the characters and become emotionally involved for once (rather than just saying "Wow, this is so fucking cool!").

Unfortunately, he backed away from making more films like that and went back to style over substance with a vengeance. Shame really. Jackie Brown is one of my favourite pictures. Where did it all go wrong?
