Underworld and Watchmen, both films I hadn't seen up to this point because despite the hype the both looked kind of rubbish, but they both turned out to be surprisingly good.

Underworld had a surprisingly well executed plot (I was especially impressed with how well it handled exposition, which is usually a problem area for a films of this type/genre), and the main characters were for the most part surprisingly well done.

Aside from some on-and-off bad acting, and some (thankfully not plot necessary) unexplained bits where it felt like something noticeably got cut, Watchmen was very well put together also. Still not sold on Zack Snyder though. How much was him, and how much was the source material? Hard to say when an adaptation is so cut-and-paste, but some of the squiffier performances make me skeptical.

I will say that I didn't see why everyone fixates on Dr. Manhattan's wang so much. Eye-rollingly immature squick/fear reactions to male nudity aside, it's actually very rarely on screen, and when it is it's just a vague blue shape. People need to grown the fuck up.
History viewed from the inside is always a dark, digestive mess, far different from the easily recognizable cow viewed from afar by historians.

Just watched Clint Eastwoods Flags Of Our Fathers and Letters From Iwo Jima. Was really impressed with them both but thought that Letters From Iwo Jima was the better film of the two.
The music in both of them was beautiful too.

Generation kill.
watched 5 of 6 episodes fridaynight.
Would have loved some more action, but all in all a good mini-series.

Caught a couple of films on the plane enroute back to Canada

X-Men 1st Class - surprisingly good!!  The best of the X-Men films so far.
Thor - crap, but I expected nothing less
Pirates of the Caribbean On Strange Tides (or something like that) - pretty good, way way better than the third one.
'I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free.'

Bunraku...

Bunraku is Japanese puppet theatre.  What's the connection in terms of the movie?

Since Ron Perlman is in it, it can't be too bad.  Demi Moore looks pretty hot, too.
Why take Life seriously? You'll never get out of it alive!

The prologue is played by puppetplayers/ looks like a shadowtheater, also the scenery the movie is set in looks like a theater-stage.
I'm not really familiar with the Bunraku (knew that's the japanese Puppet Theater, though),
but maybe the story is something typical too.

It's a revenge story, with strangers coming to town to fight evil etc.
really enjoyed it, visually, storywise and from the Martial arts involved :)

Armadillo, fantastic documentary about the Danish contingent in Helmand. First rate film.
Em dezembro de '81

Ficou marcado na história

Treasure Island from 1989 with Charlton Heston and Christian Bale.

Some may consider this heresy, but that is my favorite film adaptation of the book to date!
