Gear Krieg goes 28mm - update 10-09
« on: May 14, 2011, 10:29:20 AM »
Gears and Guts is a joined venture of Brent Dietrich of Company B and John Cunningham. They have acquired a license from DP9 to produce 1/56 models of the classic 15mm Gear Krieg models by DP9.
Very much in the way I have the license to produce World at War books based on the original Gear Krieg books.
Brent and John approached me a couple of months ago for additional input on the project. Very soon after that we received even more in depth support by John Bell (aka Jakar Nilson) the guy behind the great GK “Alfies Tenners” comics.
Soon ideas were flying around via the interweb and the first walkers were taken shape. We agreed that I would paint the walkers.

The General Early walkers shown are a pre-production prototypes with some weapons still missing. The Artizan Greatcoat troopers (painted by Tom Weiss) are shown for scale comparison. The final models will have even more details and a full complimenting set of decals included. Jakar is even working on vehicle dashboard layouts!

The above picture shows how well the spirit of the 15mm models is captured! Release dates and future plans are noted on Brents website under the Gears and Guts subsection.

Howdy all! This project started right here on Lead Adventure Forum! Over the last few years there have been a lot of discussions about doing 28mm Gear Krieg, and a couple years back Brent Dietrich (Company B) and I started on this project, but when the economy went sideways for me we called it off. But back last November I did a 3D modelling project to do legs for some prototype General Early hulls laying on my workbench and posted them here on LAF. Brent saw them, loved the direction, and the project got going again. So if it hadn't been for the enthusiasm of folks here on LAF, and this great venue, the project would never have gotten off the ground!

The project will see both the General Early and the Valkyrie as initial kits, with weapons accessories, detail kits (decals, stowage, crew) variants and other vehicles and weapons kits planned as well. Here are some pics of a near final General Early prototype. The final quality kit is very detailed. I'm sure Brent will be along to post some official information and website information. I hope these additional photos provide more about the line, though I can't compare to Agis' modeling and painting skills!!

More info and pics up on the Company B site.  I just approved the Early Mechs casting order, molds of which are being poured next week by JTFM.  So everyone can expect the excellent detail and quality that JTFM is known for.

The Masters differ a bit from the pictures we have up, as we kept adding details until the last minute, even while Agis was painting!

Early Master model

Models with be about $37, and include both sets of legs (travel and walking) as well as several weapon options.

Also, some preview of the Early and German Mechs:

We'll also have a set of weapons for each mech that will also be compatible with all the other 1/56 and 1/48 WW2 models available.

Woo!

The Tesla Sherman looks neat. I can see the rods at the back with an electrical current waving between them.

This is an exciting project and as Brent has said I will be casting the Mechs. I'll do my best to live up to Brent's praise.  :)

Cheers,

This project is also a blend of traditional modelling and 3D modelling -- some components and vehicles have been modeled completely through 3D art, and then printed via Shapeways and Moddler. It's a very fun process that allows you to try different looks and designs. So I'd like to thank Shane Smith for his excellent 3D modelling skills!!

I just got some rapid prototype hull prints of the 1/56th scale Valkyrie in hand from Shapeways. The Valkyrie has been designed in 3D courtesy of Shane Smith, and worked on through multiple edits to arrive at the final design. This set is for personal use and review, the final master is being printed via Moddler. Moddler is able to print incredibly detailed models, very impressive. We are using the same process for other vehicles currently in design. I’ll release more images as I work on these.
