28mm Artesia Miniature Needed! Please Help!
« on: May 25, 2011, 03:37:22 AM »
Hello all,

I'm a big fan of the comic book Artesia, and need a miniature of the girl herself.   Basically a head to toe plate armored warrioress.  Here's a good pic of m'girl from the comic.   Please help me find a nice mini.    Hair 'do doesn't matter, as I'm pretty adept in the putty department.

Thanks.

There are lots of plate-armored female warriors in the various Reaper lines. You can use the Reaper Figure Finder (tm) to punch in your criteria (female/human/sword/plate armor).

On a cursory inspection, I thought that "Alaine, Female Paladin" by Werner Klocke seemed like a reasonable match:

She is actually not a bad match Earther, but you'd have to convert her to bare legs kalebdaark. Grrr!  :-*  :-*

Artesia is one of my all time favorite graphic novels and at one time I helped playtest the amazing Artesia RPG and even got my name in the book!

It is SUCH a crime that Mark Smylie probably won't finish the series.  :'(  :'(  :'(

Anyone who has not discovered Artesia is missing out.

It really is a damn cryin' shame.   I loved this series.  I bought the RPG book and will probably never sell it if only for the art!   I ended up taking large chunks out of the RPG and incorporating it into an Amber Diceless RPG I was running (skill descriptions, names, magic goodies, equipment and armor costs, etc).

Y'know, I've been doing a minor sort of webcomic for a while now, and I certainly can't compare myself to Mark Smylie and Artesia.  Still I understand that you can get burned out.   I still "pick up the torch" and try to at least do something on it every now and again, even if it takes a long time.

I hope that Mark isn't just burnt on the whole thing.  He's really got something special with Artesia.  Awesome, well painted books with richly-colored panels, well thought out characters, a good deal of action, a detailed universe to play in.....     I sincerely hope that sometime soon he will "take up the gauntlet" yet again.    I'd hate to see this property die on the vine for lack of support - and that means regular books.

Tangent I know, but how handy is that?

Not good for your current search but I have been planning on using TAGs line of renaissance figures for my Artesia wargames.

Out of curiosity, are you looking for mounted or foot versions? Or both?

I'm looking for on foot if possible.  Will check out TAG.

What about these (Spear 4 and Sword 21)?

If sword and shield is okay, take the latter one, if it must be a two-handed sword than the one with the spear might easily be converted.

Any images or information for what you have planned Sir Barnaby?

I agree about the TAG figures as well, they are nice.

Also found these that would make nice Free Company pike or such, but unfortunately I don't know the manucfacturer.  :'(

I think they are OOP dogs of war.

Wouldn't the Perry plastic figures work for these?

IIRC -  and I don't have any reference materials with me - the armour worn tends to be characterized by sallet type of helmets. So if the Perry men-at-arms feature that style then I guess they would work. I was thinking the TAG conquistadors were pretty good and haven't really looked at the Perry stuff lately.

Really, gaming Artesia is something that has been in the back of my mind for a while, but I haven't really acted on it yet. I did start a thread on it on the Frothers forum once but it died very quickly.

As I have contact with several sculptors now I have been toying with getting some eBob horses and then getting somebody to sculpt the riders. Unfortunately, right this instant isn't a good time as I am fully committed to Tekumel miniatures and have lots of bills to pay in that regard.

Someday though...
