What ruleset?
« on: May 31, 2011, 09:27:58 AM »
Hello everyone, this is my first post on this forum and thus I'm not even sure if this thread is in the right section.

I have a mind to start out a small Chinese warlord army from the warlord period (1911-1930).
But I dont have any idea on what ruleset is appropriate for this peroid, I know there are rulesets like 'triumph and tragedy' and ''Contemptible little armies'' but which one is better for the warlord period or if you know another ruleset please post it.

Hi Woopius.
this may not help much but I use the WWII rules in Niel Thomas book "Wargaming - An Introduction" as a basis.
I would imagine both sets of rules you mention would work okay with modifications. "I ain't been shot mum" from the Too Fat Lardies might also be worth a look.

all the best

They are both good, IMO, T&T having the edge because of its card driven system. T&T is also sort of one of the house rules of LAF and there's plenty of help on to get here about them.

"Through the Mud & Blood" from TFL works well for me for two players.  If you want to do large mutliple sided games,  you might also want to try Count Ignatieff (of this forum) and get a copy of "Setting the East Ablaze".  I've not played them, but they look like great fun!

Thanks for the reactions everyone!

Does anyone have any experience with the ruleset 'Where heroes dare' from Iron Ivan games?
